Chess Club

On Friday 25 November 2022, McCarthy Chess Club hosted the final Chess event for this year. Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School and St Mary’s College sent teams to the school to take part in the event. Over 40 students took part and it was a great day. 

This final game was to honor a past member of staff who had restarted the chess club and has since passed away. This is the Sarah Sommerland Shield.

Congratulations to Jake Salvestrin, who won the day by being undefeated and Thomas Errington who came third. Overall, all 18 members of the chess club represented the school well and should be proud of their effort this year.

The whole day was a huge success, with a special thanks to Mr Edd Heap, who ran the competition on the day. 

The McCarthy Chess club looks forward to another successful year in 2023. Well done to all players.
