Poets in Grade 3/4

Waxing Lyrical!

Over the last four weeks, Grades 3 and 4 have enjoyed investigating poetry and learning about the importance of word choice.  Students explored different styles of poetry such as haiku, cinquain, and limericks - learning the rules, and then creating their own masterpieces.

Their writing goals centered around word choice, finding words that were exciting and engaged the audience.  Also, students developed their thesaurus-using skills to extend their vocabulary and experiment with vivid metaphors and similes.  Throughout our poetry lessons, it was so thrilling to see students take risks with their writing and produce some wonderfully creative pieces.

Students have produced their own published poetry book to showcase their thoughts on topics that interest them.  Make sure that your child shares their work with you!
