Fantastic French

Bonjour!

Grade 5 and 6 are continuing  their work on the concept of time in French.

Did you know that in French you have to say the hour first and then the minutes?

So, if you want to say "It's 20 past 7" you have to say "it is 7 hours and twenty minutes",

that is "il est sept heures et vingt".

Also, did you know that in France it  is not customary to say "it's 25 to 6" for example, it is instead referred to as "it's 35 past 5" , that is "il est cinq heures et trente-cinq".

Continuing with the topic of food, Grade 3 and 4 students have worked on activities relating to their goûter or  "collation préférée" (favourite snack). Some snacks are very easy to remember like "pizza, hamburger et cola". Others like "glace au chocolat" take a bit more practice because the words are not in the same order as in English.

After familiarising themselves with the rooms of the house, Grade 1 and 2  are learning a song about "La maison" which puts all the rooms together to the tune of "Five speckled frogs".

Here are the words:

"Dans ma maison il y a

une grande salle de bains,

un salon, cinq chambres et une cusine.

Et il ya un grenier

Et une salle a manger

Et j'ai un beau jardin.

Can you work out how many bed-rooms there are in this song?

Foundation students are continuing the topic of "Big and small", practising vocabulary and actions so they can be videoed singing the song "L'araignée Gypsy". Both "l'araignée" and "l'escargot" have been "petits" animals...but soon we will be looking at a much bigger, "plus gros" animal, probably the largest land mammal. Can you guess it ?

Magnifique!

Madame Higgins
