World Kindness Day

@ Horsham College

The Library Green was buzzing last Thursday lunchtime, when hundreds of students - who understand that kindness is contagious - got involved in starting something special at Horsham College.

More than 100 gifts were given to fellow students as teens recognised their classmates’ character strengths, with resilience, creativity and wisdom amongst the 18 celebrated.

Many students pledged to complete an Act of Kindness this week, so mums across the school community should be getting a cuppa made for them right about now, or they may notice that their teenager has suddenly developed a passion for cooking the family a meal, or vacuuming.

Students could also choose to be kind to themselves by appreciating their good health or unfollowing an online contact who makes them feel bad about themselves.

While taking advantage of the opportunity to donate a pre-loved book to be recycled, students also enthusiastically wrote kind cards to Sunnyside nursing home residents – meeting the target of 80 cards easily by the end of lunchtime.

A wonderful group of volunteer students from across the school helped make the day possible – thanks everyone – and they were joined by our new student leadership team who got amongst the action.

Horsham College staff were surprised by the arrival of a chocolate chip cookie on their desk in the morning, after a team of six students baked up a storm earlier in the week – what a sneaky random act of kindness!

Here’s hoping we all continue to throw kindness around like confetti!
