MUSIC

The Music Department has had a busy few weeks with some of our final performances for Term 4.

Last Friday night, the 18th of November, the Music Department welcomed Horsham Rotary to the school for a night of fundraising. They spent the evening having their regular dinner meeting, catered by our amazing parents from Friends of Music. The Rotarians enjoyed quite the spread of barbeque food, salads and sweets, all made and prepared by our parents. Our immense gratitude to our parents for getting behind this event.

After their dinner, the Rotarians were ushered into the Auditorium and treated to a concert not unlike last month’s soiree. It featured the Year 9 Band with their new setlist, the choir, the wind band, and the VCE ensemble who gave their last performance for the year. We wish the very best to our Year 12 Music students Haylie Mibus and Brendan Mackley, who have stuck with us over the 6 years. Many pleasant memories with you will stick around, and we wish you all the best with your endeavours next year!

Featured soloists at the Rotary concert included Georgia Walsh on clarinet, Wilbur Pope on French horn and Reed Widdowson on guitar and vocals. These students have improved their performance and instrumental skills outtasight over the year, getting better and better with each performance they do. Well done, guys!

Another triumph this week for the Year 9 Band was their final lunchtime concert. The improvement that they have made as performers through communication, listening and giving feedback has absolutely paid off. In Term 4, they chose a more challenging setlist with more songs, and played them with more grace, technical ability and stage presence than at their Term 3 concert. They are a special group and I want to let Annabelle, Maddi, Reed, Wilbur, Sam, Louis and Eli know how immensely proud I am of their attitude, progress and growth over the semester. For these trained musicians, this is just the beginning!

Upcoming events on our agenda are the Community Christmas Concert on 2nd of December, 5-5.30pm in Ward St (near Coles) which will feature our choir, wind band and Year 9 band.

Another significant event is the ApraAmcos SongMakers workshop, all day from the 8th-9th of December. Interested students are encouraged to put their name down for this exciting workshop event, which will feature mentor artists like HC alumni Alice Skye. We are very privileged as a school to be chosen for this event, and to nurture and develop our blossoming song writers and artists.

Just a note to parents and students that Instrumental Lessons will be finishing up after Week 9, as Music staff are scheduled to visit Horsham Primary, Horsham West Primary and Natimuk Primary School in the following week to drum up enrolments for next year! As is always our policy, if your child is interested in learning an instrument, do not hesitate to get in contact with Lauren Arnett or Nick Shirrefs and we can get you in on the program. We want YOU! Excitingly enough we will be gaining a guitar teacher next year and hope to pick up quite a few interested guitarists to take lessons in 2023!
