Principal's Report

School Fees – remaining the same for 2023

At the November meeting of the College Council, it was decided that our College fees for 2023 would remain the same as 2022.

The College Council and school Leadership Team is very proud to be able to continue to provide a high-quality education and experience to our students at a low cost.  We understand the additional costs of education in regards uniform, textbooks and IT devices, and will continue to work with families to maintain standards in an affordable manner.

The College fees are used to directly support subject programs and our student Wellbeing Team across the College.

Investment in the Performing Arts and Fine Arts

The College Council has continued to target works to improve the facilities of our College. In the past month work has begun in refurbishing the old Technology spaces into a permanent home for Music, refurbished Textiles rooms and further space for Art and Graphics.  These works are funded within our school budget and is being managed by our maintenance team of Kim Drummond, Ken Harrison and Jek Lakin and uses local businesses and trades for all works.

By project managing ourselves and using local businesses we are constantly stretching our dollar further and also able to produce fantastic outcomes for our students.  It is also great to see so many of the tradespeople working on site that are former students.

The increased spaces have been accessible because of the new spaces created for our Engineering, Systems and Automotive.  The Automotive space has been part funded by the Wimmera Trade Training Centre and will run VET Automotive for 15 Horsham College students as a part of the Wimmera VET cluster in 2023.

Headstart Year 11 and 12 2023 and End of Year

The Headstart programs for students will finish today and next Friday.  The programs are an opportunity for students and staff to begin the learning for the year ahead and also understand the expectations of VCE and VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) at Horsham College.

I would like to thank the staff who have prepared lessons and worked collaboratively to prepare for the year ahead and ensure a smooth transition for 2023.

Once the Headstart programs are completed the teams in Years 7 to 9 will begin preparing students to transition to the following year level.  Students in Year 9 in 2023 will receive their elective choices and a number of students will have meetings to review 2022 and establish positive plans for 2023.
