Spotlight on our Learners - Years 3 & 4

Year 3

Year 4

Literacy:

Throughout Term 4, students have been reading a variety of texts from well know Australian authors, such as Paul Jennings, Jackie French, and Anna Fienberg. Students have dived deep into identifying each author’s craft and learnt how to think critically about a text. The variety of texts has sparked students’ curiosity and further developed their interest in reading, writing, and illustrating books. In writing, students are exploring the genre of exposition texts. Students have begun to express their opinion and ideas in written form, identifying the features of the text and understanding how an argument is structured. They have displayed some strong arguments thus far about wearing or not wearing a school uniform on their upcoming camp, we look forward to more debates and discussions of persuasion on other general topics.

Numeracy:

In Numeracy, students have extended their knowledge and continued to develop their number fluency by recognising different number patterns. Students have participated in a variety of hands-on learning tasks that have deepened their confidence and knowledge in Fractions. Students used manipulatives and real-life resources to explore and broaden their understanding.

Science:

In Science, students have been investigating forces. Students have participated in experiments testing speed, magnetism, and friction. This has introduced them to scientific terms that has greatly increased their vocabulary and understanding of the topic. We are looking forward to the many future experiments we will be conducting.

Grade 4 Sport:

Our students have had the privilege of working closely with high school students from Sunbury College. These students have run sport workshops for Basketball, Cricket and Newcomb Volleyball preparing them for Grade 5/6 interschool sports. Students have also been to collaborate and practice teamwork skills with their peers.

Incursion:

This term the Grade 4 students have been lucky enough to experience a variety of incursions. Students learnt about and developed First Aid skills with the St John’s Ambulance organisation. Later in the term, they will be visited by Western Water and the AFL for a Football Clinic. We are all also very excited about our camp to Anglesea in Week 8!
