Year 9 Cinderella Pantomime

The Year 9 Drama class performed the classic pantomime Cinderella to the Junior School students, who were utterly enthralled in the performance. What a joy it was to see the actors interacting with the young audience in that classic pantomime style!

A big thank you to Mrs Susan Swan and the Junior School staff for allowing the time for the students to be our audience!

MGA Studio Arts Excursion

On our excursion to the Monash Gallery of Art on November 9th, students were able to experience two photography exhibitions and develop a further understanding of studio practices and art industry contexts. We were very fortunate to have the senior curator of the gallery, Angela Connor, walk us through the exhibition and present her in-depth in contexts talk. This included:

  • The roll of the MGA as a public Gallery
  • Collection and acquisition policies and procedures
  • The role of staff members in particular the curator
  • Preservation and conservation practices
  • Exhibition installation and design
  • Gallery building and facilities (Harry Seidler Architect)
  • Publicity, funding and sponsorship

This was a wonderful learning experience for all, viewing such a range of works in the William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize. Over the last 16 years, this Prize has emerged as an important annual survey of contemporary photographic practice in Australia and one of the most prestigious prizes in the country. Monash Gallery of Art invited artists to submit still photo-based media including analogue and digital photography created over the last year for consideration.

The winning work will be awarded $30,000 and will be acquired into MGA’s nationally significant collection of Australian photographs. The Smith & Singer People’s Choice Award will be voted by the public with the recipient receiving $5,000. One artist will also be selected for the $10,000 Wai Tang Commissioning Award which will coincide with the 2023 Bowness Photography Prize exhibition season.

Library

With the end of the school year only three weeks away, we are starting Holiday Borrowing from Monday November 21.

Students are encouraged to borrow widely for the holidays, as the summer break is a wonderful time of year to start something new or to finally read that book you’ve been hearing about.

To help students find the right books for the holidays, take a look at our Top 10 Books of the year, and our five most exciting new releases. Our friendly Library staff are also available any time of day to share book recommendations – just visit the Library or email us at library@huntingtower.vic.edu.au

Please note: the Senior Library will be closing at 4pm during Week 10 (December 5 – 9).

Year 9 Media Broadcast

On Friday 11 November, the Year 9 Media class, led by Mr Stefan Sakellaridis, successfully aired a professional live news broadcast!

Students had six weeks to prepare the broadcast. They were designated specific roles such as presenting, story writing, editing and operating technical equipment.

The entire show was filmed live, meaning that students had to perfect their role and work as a team to ensure that the production ran smoothly. The broadcast ran for 13 minutes with no mistakes!

Stories included an update on new uniform policies, an exclusive interview with next year’s school captains and a reflection on all of the incredible achievements from the Year 9 cohort across the year.

There is a link to watch an edited version of the broadcast here:
