Senior School News
We've made it! The end of Term 2 is finally here, and it's been a term filled with remarkable achievements and celebrations.
Our talented Grade 5 and 6 students recently represented our school with great pride in the Lightning Premiership Series. This thrilling series included three round robin days, featuring netball, football, and soccer. Throughout the competitions, our students showcased exceptional sportsmanship, persistence, and resilience. They should be immensely proud of their conduct and performance.
In our engaging Term 2 topic unit, 'Staying Alive,' our students delved into a wide range of fascinating subjects. They explored organisms that thrive in extreme environments, learned about the impact of physical conditions on the behaviour and survival of living things, and studied animals that migrate or hibernate. Additionally, the Grade 6 students concluded this unit with an enjoyable experiment, testing the optimal conditions for mould growth on bread!
Congratulations are in order for our Grade 5 and 6 students who auditioned for our school musical, Peter Pan. Taking the stage to sing and perform in front of their peers is no small feat. Well done to everyone who gave it their all! We eagerly anticipate the final product at the end of Term 3. Those who secured roles will be dedicating countless hours to rehearsals, and we admire their commitment to this demanding task.
In support of our Respectful Relationships program, the years 4-6 ran a ‘self esteem’ day. This focussed on the importance of positive self talk, embracing our differences, identifying our character strengths and diving in positive body image and the impact media can have on how we view ourselves.
In English, our Grade 5 students explored the themes of empathy, friendship, acceptance, and celebrating differences through the book Wonder. To celebrate their hard work on this novel study our Grade 5s held a literacy morning tea this week and brought and discussed their favourite novels. Meanwhile, our Grade 6 students immersed themselves in the 'Little People, Big Dreams' series, which introduces young readers to the lives of remarkable individuals from artists to scientists to activists. Each of these extraordinary people accomplished incredible things, starting with a dream in their childhood. To conclude this unit, our students selected a famous person and created their own books inspired by the style of 'Little People, Big Dreams.'
Let's not forget the other noteworthy achievements of our students this term. Our Grade 5's showcased incredible teamwork skills and resilience during their camp at the beginning of the term. On the other hand, our Grade 6's dedicated themselves to preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation, researching and choosing a saint to guide them on their Catholic journey.
Our Grade 5 students have achieved remarkable success in fostering intergenerational connections with the Fernhill community. Through enriching discussions and enjoyable games, they have demonstrated genuine interest, exceptional social skills, and a willingness to learn from different generations. These interactions have enriched their knowledge, nurtured empathy, and created lasting connections. Their efforts exemplify compassionate citizenship and the inclusive values of our school. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the students, Fernhill community, and supportive teachers and staff. Congratulations on their exceptional achievements, and we look forward to the continued growth of these intergenerational bonds.
We hope that everyone enjoys a well-deserved break over the holidays, and we eagerly await the return of your children at the start of Term 3.
