3 & 4

Grade Three

Literacy

Over the last fortnight, students have developed confidence in their ability to create accurate structures in information reports. Additionally, they have expressed enjoyment in the process of selecting their own animals for their reports.

During 3-minute writing exercises, the students have been experiencing a renewed love for writing. They have been exploring different types of writing, focusing on the topic of the first day of school.

As part of a fun activity, we have also been engaging in writing the start, middle and ending sections of other people's stories, allowing their creativity to flow and contribute to collaborative storytelling.

Maths

The students have successfully designed and established their own supermarket. They thoroughly enjoyed the process of creating various items and assigning prices to them. Moreover, they actively engaged in problem-solving activities related to money, specifically focusing on finding the correct change to the nearest 5 cents.

Religion

In R.E, as the new generation, we are developing a deeper connection with the parishioners, strengthening our relationship with them.

Respectful Relationships

Throughout our RR lessons, our primary emphasis has been on honing problem-solving abilities and developing effective coping strategies. Students have actively created a collaborative environment, particularly during group activities designed to improve communication skills. Students engage in collective problem-solving exercises and brainstorm strategies applicable to these scenarios.

Grade Four

Literacy

In the past two weeks, students have merged the subjects of Topic and Literacy to compose their information reports about a selected animal.

Throughout these writing sessions, students conducted research on their chosen animal, delving into its habitat, diet, life cycle, description, and intriguing facts, resulting in the creation of captivating information reports.

In our morphography lessons this semester, students have explored the significance of various morphographs: A morphograph is the smallest unit of meaning in a word. All words have 1 or more morphographs.

  • re
  • ing
  • photo
  • hydr
  • gram
  • sym
  • syn

Using a matrix, students have used these morphographs to create new complex words. For example Hydroelectricity, anagram, photosynthesis, symmetrical.

Maths

Students have enthusiastically embraced the Ochre daily review during their maths sessions.

During the final two weeks of Term Two, students have extensively explored maps and their various components. This includes an in-depth examination of map features such as the title, key, scale, and orientation/compass.

In an engaging activity, fourth-grade students composed instructions for their buddies and navigated through a school map to reach a predetermined location within the schoolyard.

Respectful Relationships

On Monday, students embraced the Sacred Heart self-esteem day. They had the opportunity to engage in various activities led by teachers from different grade levels, as they rotated between classrooms. The activities included sessions on self-love, exploring positive and negative self-talk (also known as ANTS), discovering their character strengths, discussing body image, and understanding the concept of self-esteem.

This proved to be an impactful day for all the students in grades 4, 5, and 6. I encourage you to ask your child about what they learned during this special day and what aspects they enjoyed the most.

Grandparents day

We were incredibly fortunate to have a wonderful morning with our Grandparents, parents, and special friends. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who joined us at Sacred Heart on this significant day. The children thoroughly enjoyed celebrating and expressing just how vital you are to them.

Wishing you a fantastic and safe school holiday! We look forward to seeing you in the upcoming term!
