Deputy News

Dear Parents and families,

Wow what another amazing term of learning we have completed. I am so proud of our staff and students alike as they embrace new learning and really build their stamina with our explicit teaching approach across the school. There is certainly a lot to celebrate at Sacred Heart this term both in and out of the classroom. It was so reaffirming to hear a new Casual Relief Teacher say that our students were so polite and engaged. She really enjoyed teaching here and would love to come back. What wonderful feedback. As our term comes to a close I hope you are able sit back and reflect on another wonderful term and pat yourselves on the back for all your hard work too. We acknowledge the juggle and thank you for all your continual support and smiles.

BOOK FAIR

Our annual Scholastic Book fair was a great success this year. A huge thankyou to all the parents who volunteered with the sales before and after school each day. it made it  a lot easier for our staff.  Thanks for giving up your time and helping out -Nick McDonald, Michelle Keane, Desiree Brudenell, Emma Brown, Suzie McPherson, Arriarne Kemp-Bishop, Helen Mertin and Laura Sullivan.

It was wonderful to allow  our grandparents to have the opportunity to purchase books on Grandparents day aswell. We raised over $4,000 in  total sales and Sacred Heart will benefit by receiving  20% back from Scholastic to go towards literacy resources across our school.

GRANDPARENTS DAY

I know this maybe doubling up but I can't write my newsletter without acknowledging the amazing Grandparents who visited our assembly and classrooms last Friday. The energy and buzz around the school was so exciting and our hall was full, it was standing room only.  The presentation in assembly by our year 3 and 4 students was remarkable and the poems were delightful. As some grandparents said to me "Sacred Heart took it up an extra notch this year."  It was so lovely to receive so many positive comments from the grandparents over tea and coffee. It was an absolute delight to meet so many grandparents and special visitors and put some faces to names and have  a chat rather than a quick wave or hello on the gate. The scones were a  real hit too. Thanks Karen for organising the scones through our tuckshop Fun Fresh Foods A huge thank you to all the parents that helped set up and serve the morning tea, especially Brooke Jamison, Kate Shawcross, Brigitte lynch, Karen Aldrich, Rowena Henebery, Adele Whineray, Kristy Ackerman, Kyie Rowe, Lisa Mcdonald.

YEAR 5 BOOK CLUB

What a wonderful way to start a Wednesday with the year 5 students teachers and parents all gathering together. There were  a lot of laughs from the students and parents alike during the Berry Street positive primers. It was such  a great way to culminate their term and celebrate the reading the Year 5 class have been learning about this term. The parents and family members had an opportunity to share their favourite books and the reason why they liked them and then the students talked about the book 'Wonder' by RJ Palacio and what they have learnt about throughout the book. There are some incredible life  lessons and important take aways.  Mr Brown and Mr Blake did a brilliant job in tieing this all together through the Hero's journey. What lucky students  they are to have such wonderful teachers.

YEAR 4 KINDER VISITS

It was lovely to take the next group of Year 4 students to Nagle kinder on a sunny Wednesday afternoon, to make connections and  to engage in their learning. The year 4 students were  a great help to support the 4 year olds with cutting and pasting , making kites, playng with the playdough and puzzles and reading with the kinder students. I also had a chance to attend the imaginary doctor's surgery for my injections. Then we enjoyed some outside time on the swings and climbing frame. I'm not sure who enjoys the kinder visits more, me, the year 4's or our kinder friends, many of whom will come to Sacred Heart next year.

Wishing you all a wonderful holiday and as many of you are already away on holidays far and wide, I truly wish you a really relaxing holiday break and a briliant adventure for some. I will be staying closer to home, enjoying sunny Sandringham and hopefully some longer Winter days ahead. We look forward to welcoming our families and stuents back in term 3 after a refreshing break,

Stay warm and stay healthy,
