Bits & Bobs

I am writing to introduce Big Dreams Support. We are a local NDIS service providing early childhood supports for children aged 0 - 6 years with a diagnosis of autism, or on a waitlist/considering assessment. We work in partnership with families at home, and in other early childhood settings such as childcare, community playgroups and kinder/prep classes. We have current availability for plan or self managed families who access the NDIS, or self funding families seeking supports for their child.

Food and Drink at School

Recently we have had enquiries around our guidelines for having nuts and drinks

at school.

Nuts: We are a nut free school which means no loose nuts or foods that contain nuts such as nutella or peanut butter etc. Nuts can cause serious anaphylaxis reactions to children allergic to this food.

Drink: In regards to hydration, we prefer  'Water' for drinking at school. We have noticed drinks such as Prime (which also carry warnings for children not to consume under the of age of 15 years of age) being brought to school in recent weeks. Please do not bring these drinks or other juices to school.

New JPII Second Hand Uniform Facebook Group

Please join our new  John Paul II Second Hand Uniform (Official)  page on Facebook. This is a place you can buy or sell uniform items.  All transactions are arranged between the buyer and seller and outside of the school. This page is a great way to replace uniform items and/or to keep up with your growing child's needs with less expense. It is also a great way to be sustainable.  We hope that it becomes a useful tool for our school community.

Another option available to families is to donate the uniform at the school office for other John Paul II families.  These items are stored in tubs based on sizes.  Parents are welcome to have a look in these tubs at any time and take anything they need.

Have you heard of 'Ticket To Play'?

Ticket to Play is a Tasmanian Government initiative designed to reduce the cost of sport and active recreation membership and/or registration for eligible children.

Ticket to Play provides two vouchers worth up to $100 each towards club membership fees for children aged 5-18 years who are listed on a Services Australia Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card or are in Out of Home Care. Vouchers can be used at two different activity providers, or both can be used at one activity provider.

The key objective of Ticket to Play is to increase the number of young Tasmanians participating in sport and active recreation.

Who is eligible for a voucher?

Applicants must be:

  • aged between 5 and 18 years old at the time of application; and
  • listed on a valid Services Australia Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card (either their own or their parent, guardian or carer’s) or be in Out of Home Care
  • Special consideration may apply if the child is aged 5 to 18 years, is a resident in Tasmania and meets the following criteria:
    • the child/family is a temporary or provisional visa holder, undocumented migrant or international student.

What can I use a voucher for?

Vouchers can be used toward the cost of club membership or registration fees at Tasmanian sport or recreation organisations who are listed as an approved activity provider. Click here to search for Approved Activity Providers.

Applications are open from 7 July 2022 to 5.00 pm on 31 May 2023.
