Stories from the Library

A NEW CHAPTER

The last month has been a busy time in the library. For National Simultaneous Story Time 3/4M celebrated their achievements in reading with a wonderful sloth party

and cake.Kindergarten students explored their creativity by making and wearing

sloth masks inspired by reading

The Speedy Sloth.

National Reconciliation Week

27 May to 3 June – is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. We have been learning about the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through reading the picturebooks Ceremony and Somebody’s Land by Adam Goodes and Ellie Laing and My Culture and Me by Greg Dreise.

As a school we continue to celebrate literature and immerse ourselves in the joys of books and reading. On the 3 June we will commence the Premier’s Reading Challenge at John Paul II to encourage our students to further develop their own reading. Awards for effort and achievement in reading will be given during our Book Week Parade on the 22 August.

“A physical book is like a shark.

Sharks are old: there were sharks in the ocean before the dinosaurs.

And the reason there are still sharks around is that sharks are better at being sharks than anything else is.

Physical books are tough, hard to destroy, bath-resistant, solar-operated, feel good in your hand:

they are good at being books, and there will always be a place for them.”

Neil Gaiman quoting Douglas Adams
