Surprise visit from Premier

Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting both the Premier of Victoria, Mr Dan Andrews our local State Member for parliament Ms Emma Vulin on a tour of our incredible school. We only received a short amount of notice (about an hour!!) before our guests arrived, however our students did an incredible job in showcasing the positive culture that exists within Orchard Park Primary School and the great learning they are doing. A special acknowledgement must be made to Mieke and Brax, our School Captains who without much notice took the lead on our school tour and answered a number of questions the Premier threw at them.

Student Excellence Art Excursion

This Tuesday, a group of Senior School students who have a real passion in Visual Arts went on an excursion in the Mornington Peninsula to further develop their skills and knowledge in Art.

Mrs McEachern and Rachael took the students to the Paint Your World art studio, where students created their own stencil painting on canvas with local artist, Michele Clever. This was an extensive process (over 3 hours!!) that the students worked through. This certainly tested their stamina, but they came through the challenge and produced some brilliant pieces. The students were so excited to show their creativity in their artwork. These pieces are now going to go up on display in our adminstration building.

The group also visited Mornington Peninsula Regional Art Gallery to explore other local artists. It was a fabulous day for all students and staff involved!

Indigenous Incursion

On Wednesday the 14th of June, we were lucky enough to have a First Nations incursion delivered to our whole school.

Baz taught all of our students about the meaning behind the Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islands flags, the stories found in Indigenous songs the classes have learned, and taught our staff and students some new ones! He played the yiddaki (ask your children what this!) and taught everyone some new indigenous vocabulary.

Thanks Baz and Cultural Infusion for such a rich and engaging learning experience. We are so grateful for the learning you provided us all with.
