Senior School Assistant Principal Report

As we near the end of another term I want to congratulate staff and students for keeping up with what has been a very busy term.  The conclusion of Semester 1 comes as a time to celebrate the amazing amount of work that has been done so far. We look forward to celebrating the success of our students with a celebration assembly on the first day back to Term 3.

During Term 2 we had year 10’s out on the Try a Trade Day down at Cranbourne Racecourse. Students were exposed to many trades and courses in which they can inspire towards. Year 10’s last week of term is out in workforce for work experience week.  We wish all our year 10’s the best of luck in their adventures into full-time work for the week.

2024 preparations for course counselling are under way.  We look forward to sharing with you the new senior reforms pathway options for students. I encourage you to support your child and the school as we guide your child on the best pathway in senior school based on past results at Lyndale Secondary College. Instilling positive values, routines and commitment towards senior school will support your child in reaching their best potential. An online video has been sent to parents detailing the 2024 senior school pathway options. We will soon be providing students more information on the pathway we encourage them to take in 2024 to set them up for success. Following on from this, an information evening has been set for Wednesday 26th July at the school for parents of children in year 9-11, to provide more information on these pathways. This will lead into the final course confirmation on Thursday 10th August. Parents of year 10 students will be required to attend the college with their child to confirm their course for 2024. Year 9 & 11 students will be required to submit their course options and attend school as usual.

In 2024 students undertaking the VCE Vocational Major and VPC pathway will be undertaking a VET course. We will be offering more VET courses at Lyndale SC in 2024 and this will ensure more students can access VET courses at Lyndale Secondary College. More information on this can be found on the online video and at the up-and-coming information evening on Wednesday 26th July.

COMPLETION TOWARDS SATISFACTORY OUTOMES

A reminder that all our year 11 & 12 students are required to complete set tasks to satisfactorily meet outcomes. Students who meet these satisfactorily outcomes will also complete a SAC for a score on their assessment. Students need to be meeting these satisfactorily outcomes by completing tasks in the classroom and outside of the classroom. It is important students set up regular study schedules to ensure they do not become overwhelmed with workloads that are taking place by trying to complete all work requirements in a short period of time. I encourage you as a parent to regularly check compass and contact your child’s classroom teachers if you have any concerns regarding your child’s progress.

PUNCTUALITY AT SCHOOL

Senior school are seeing a trend of students coming late to school with notes from parents, or notes on compass approving these absences. Parent approved absences where students are sleeping in or choosing to leave the school grounds are unapproved absences. From Semester 2 these absences will result in students being given an opportunity during lunch time or after school to make up time for the learning they have missed to ensure we meet the VCAA guidelines of expected hours of attendance for each subject.

Parent support is vital to the school in ensuring we are giving our students the best opportunity in being successful. From Term 3 we appreciate parent support in understanding that unless a medical certificate is supplied to support a student’s absence, students will be required to go straight to class upon arrival to school and the school will ensure students are given appropriate additional time either during lunchtime or after school to make up on the time missed for school.

Wishing our families, a safe, relaxing and enjoyable break.

The Trades Fit Expo for Girls

The Trades Fit Expo for Young Women in Trades and Tech surpassed all my expectations, earning an exceptional rating of 💯 from me. I wholeheartedly recommend this event to everyone without hesitation. Having attended various expos in the past, I can confidently say that this one stood out for its unparalleled hospitality and genuine helpfulness. Every person I encountered was incredibly welcoming, readily offering their help and valuable insights whenever I needed advice.

The exhibitor stalls were a delightful surprise, each one offering engaging and unique activities. Participating in these activities was not only entertaining but also gave us the opportunity to win fabulous prizes such as books, candies, and accessories. It was an absolute treat to visit each stall and spoil ourselves with the wonderful freebies they generously shared. As a result, it seemed that no one left the expo empty-handed; in fact, many attendees, if not all, departed with three huge bags filled with goodies 💪🏼.

The expo attracted around 2,500 students over the two days exploring 85 stalls from different organisations, education facilities and businesses.

Within our student survey they asked the if students would consider a trade / tech career as a result of attending TTF expo?  As you can see, a large proportion are now interested.
