Dear Parents

I do hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend. We've had many stories of sporting events, trips interstate and to the beach as well as camping and resting at home over the weekend. It was great to recharge before the last few busy weeks of term.

Thank you to all of our parents, relatives and friends who came to our open classrooms this afternoon.  We love having visitors in our classrooms looking at our work and joining in the fun. Thank you again to everyone who attended.

Congratulations to our Bathurst 'white' debating team who debated against Nashdale PS last Friday. Nikki Allan, Georgie Weal, Ruqaya Said and Madalyn Robb debated extremely well but were narrowly defeated whilst debating the topic 'That primary schools should devote one morning a week to teaching computer programming and coding.' Well done to our debaters and Ms Lloyd.

Congratulations to our Stage 1 children who attended the Bathurst Historical Museum excursion yesterday. The children had a wonderful time exploring the many items at the museum. The teachers were extremely proud of the children, their behaviour and the manner which they represented our school. Thank you, Mrs Curran, for organising the excursion and to the staff who attended for their work in ensuring the day was such a success.

Well done to the children who represented Bathurst Public School and Bathurst District PSSA at the Western Cross Country Trials in Orange yesterday. Jax Brennan, Lilly Guihot, Sophie McPhee, Cruz Fischbeck, Harvey Glasgow, Kyle Treddinnick, Adelaide Fulthorpe, Lachlan Abbott, Tom Hamer, Beau Francis, Max Naylor, Elena Noonan and Lara Glasgow all ran extremely well, with some children running personal best times. Congratulations everyone on your super efforts.

Stage 2 have completed their self portrait work with artist in residence, Stephen Rogers. Wow! They look incredible. Stage 2 parents would have seen them on display during open classrooms this afternoon. All children will bring home their portraits this afternoon. Again, a big thank you to the P&C who have funded the artist in residence program and purchased all the materials. A special thank you to Mr Rogers for his work with the children, his expertise and positivity. Stage 3 will be involved in the project in Term 3/4.

Thank you to Mrs Chaffey and the volunteers for their continued wonderful work in the Canteen. Our school-operated canteen is currently open 1 day per week (every Friday). We are currently needing volunteers for Term 3. Without volunteers, our canteen will be unable to operate. Please consider volunteering next term in our canteen. One day would be fantastic and the children love seeing parents, grandparents and friends helping in the canteen. If you are available to volunteer, please complete the note below and either return or email it to school.

We are continuing with the Everyday Matters Attendance Campaign that has been launched by the Department of Education. We are following up student absence on a daily basis through SMS and phone calls. We ask parents to continue responding to SMS messages explaining absences or contacting the school by email or phone to inform us about your child's absence from school. We have also had every child's Semester 1 attendance printed so parents can see a visual of their child's attendance patterns. These will be posted home this week.

Some attendance facts for our school last week;

  • Last week our Attendance rate was 91.1%.
  • Last week 66.2% (312) of our children attended over 90% of the time.
  • Last week 80 children attended less than 85% of the time.

If any parent has any concerns regarding any aspect of school life, please do not hesitate to contact me.
