Last Friday parents received a link to a digital copy of their child’s Semester One Report. Should you encounter any technical difficulties accessing these reports please contact the school Office.
In 2022 the school transitioned to the new report format, to ensure parents were given a broad overview of their child’s progress. Feedback from parents was that this new format was both comprehensive and easy to read.
Your child’s progress in Religion, English and Mathematics is measured against the achievement standards of the Victorian Curriculum. These marks are supported by a comprehensive overview of your child’s skills in the areas of English and Mathematics. Families are also given an opportunity to view their child’s progress in the area of Personal & Social Capabilities. We recommend that you store the report in a safe place for future reference, as it may be required during transition to secondary school or should you move to another primary school.
Noone's Schoolwear has informed us that the manufacturing of new school uniform has been very slow due to staff shortages and illness. Many of the new items are currently at the embroiderer where the addition of the school logo will be completed. Some items are still being made.
Once all items are finalised and in stock the school will immediately inform parents and commence the transition to the new multipurpose uniform.
Until then please continue to wear the current uniform knowing that wearing sports uniform each day is permitted.
Schools complete the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) every year. It counts the number of students who receive additional adjustments or “help” at school because of a disability. The NCCD helps governments and schools plan for the needs of students with a disability. For further information click on the link NCCD Information Sheet.
In this week’s Newsletter we are drawing your attention to a great article on Omegle which parents can access through the St John's Parent Online Safety Hub . If your kids are going to be gaming online over the holidays, we strongly suggest you check out this article. Your child may be using Omegle to communicate with other gamers and as a parent we think you should be fully informed about the platform.
First launched in 2009, Omegle is a free online chat website that has recently seen a resurgence in popularity, since the pandemic. The site's tagline is 'Talk to strangers!' and that's exactly what visitors to the site are doing when randomly paired with a complete stranger to text or video chat anonymously. The premise alone raises many red flags, so how does Omegle work and is it safe for children? The link below will take you directly to the article.

After this week the school will move into the next phase of our online safety initiative. With real time alerts now active through our Linewize Monitor system, concerning online behaviour by students when at school will be immediately flagged to the leadership team. These alerts monitor students at risk of self-harm, depression, grooming, sexual content, bullying, school violence and other threats in real time.
To support parents in navigating this ever-changing online space, we now have access to our own Online Safety Parent Hub. At St John’s we believe parents need tools, support, and education to take an active role in their child's digital development. The Parent Area provides a wealth of online safety resources - such as digital parenting guides, app reviews and articles - developed by our team of leading digital safety and wellbeing experts. Plus, access to free parental control tools to help keep children safe while using their personal devices.
The hub empowers parents to take an active role in teaching their children about online safety.
Content on the hub is constantly updated and added to so parents should try to get into the habit of visiting this regularly especially as new online social media platforms and games are released.
The Parent Online Safety Hub is accessible to all our school parents using this link.
