Performing Arts
The Broadley Performing Arts Centre (BPAC) has been overflowing with activity throughout Term 1, preparing for the many performances that await in Term 2.
Many of our Music ensembles have more students involved than ever before; the Cherub Choir (Years 3 and 4) has 70 enthusiastic singers, the Senior Choir numbers 60 students and Andante (Year 3 Strings) rehearse in two groups! This is exciting indeed!
There are two new ensembles this year; the Middle Years Vocal Ensemble is an auditioned singing group for Years 7 – 9, and the Junior Concert Band has been formed to feature our woodwind, brass and percussion players in Years 5 and 6.
Every ensemble will feature on Open Day, where two short concerts will be presented in the BPAC. More information will be sent out to all families of students involved. The day will also include the formal opening of the new Middle School building and this ceremony will feature the Senior Choir.
The Instrumental Program for Years 5 and 7 has now also been extended into Year 6, making it a three-year program for our students who commence in the Junior School. After one year, there are several students who have elected to have individual lessons on their chosen instrument. This year’s Year 5 students were very excited to receive brand new instruments and have begun their group lessons in earnest. The Year 6 Band is already sounding great and will have some opportunities to perform later in the year.
The Year 2 Strings program has also commenced and the joy of making music is certainly evident in their faces. Many parents witnessed this firsthand as they attended their child’s open lesson.
The Middle Years Production of Aladdin JR is well into rehearsals, after a series of auditions. This showcase of talent is sure to entertain and will be presented early in Term 3.
Our Senior Vocal Ensemble will start this year’s performances with the ANZAC Dawn Service in the first week of next term. This service is always very moving and is an important occasion in the life of the school. All are welcome to attend.
Students have also been preparing for music examinations, the first session of which has been sat this term.
Next term will be extremely busy with a variety of events, and we look forward to welcoming you to the BPAC and LMC for these performances.
Each week in Junior Chapel there is a featured Performer of the Week. This term, there have been wonderful piano and violin solos, all carefully prepared and confidently performed. Last week Jaden and Noah, both from 6G, skilfully presented a cello duet, displaying both musicianship and teamwork. This week the Seraphim Choir led worship at the Junior Easter Chapel and shared the gospel truth of the resurrection in a vibrant song of celebration.
