Grade Four

Students have settled back into Term 2 well. They have been engaging in their Wellbeing Journals well which has been pleasing to see and it is lovely to hear students talking about how they have implemented taught strategies to assist them getting into the ‘green zone’.

During English lessons, the students have begun working on persuasive writing. They have been brainstorming their ideas and learning how to add facts to their arguments to make them stronger. The students have explored a variety of persuasive texts both written and verbal to gain a better understanding of what makes a strong argument and how to engage their reader. We are looking forward to reading their completed pieces!

Math lessons over the past few weeks have given the students the opportunity to explore 2D shapes and their properties. They have investigated features of shapes and identified properties such as symmetry and angles. Students will be creating different designs using their knowledge of shapes. A focus for our mental computation strategies have included students refining their skill of front end addition. This week we have started exploring balancing equations through algebra.

Our Integrated Studies concept this term is Social Justice. We have been exploring questions such as “What is fair?” Students have participated in a variety of different activities designed to help them understand the concept of empathy. These activities will lead to further inquiry into how we can share what we’ve learnt with the rest of the school community.
