Principal's message

Kylie O'Donnell

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome back to Term 2. It has been wonderful to see the students returning to school well rested and ready to work hard. We returned last Wednesday to a moving ANZAC service prepared by Miss Courtenay and led by our Year 6 leaders. We were also fortunate enough to have Major Wilson in attendance and his reverence really added to the solemnity of our commemoration service.

Staff Development Day

Our teachers have also returned refreshed and ready for the challenges of Term 2. Last Monday 24 April the staff engaged in a spirituality day that allowed us to deepen our connection with the Brigidine values. Sr Faye, a sprightly 88 year old, was one of the founding sisters of St Margaret Mary’s and she told us of the joys and struggles of the school’s early days. She spoke about combining the virtues of strength and gentleness noting that a few of the sisters excelled in strength but needed to work on gentleness. I was personally impressed when she told us of a football player who worked as a taxi driver and often drove the sisters from Brigidine College to St Margaret Mary’s. With a wry little smile she asked “has anyone ever heard of Clive Churchill?” We can learn so much from those who came before us and we all agree Sr Faye is a living treasure.

Athletics Carnival

Next week will be a big one with the Athletics Carnival on Monday and our Mothers Day Breakfast and Liturgy on Thursday. There is such a positive buzz around the school with our House Colour Captains working on their cheers and practising with their teams each afternoon. Unfortunately I will not be attending the Athletics Carnival this year as the Randwick Botany network has scheduled a principal’s meeting on the same day.

Mother’s Day

I am looking forward to our Mother’s Day Breakfast next Thursday 11 May. I sincerely hope all our Mums, Grandmothers and other significant women in our lives can join us for a coffee, pastry and liturgy. The coffee van will be ready to go from 7.30 am and the Liturgy will start in the Church at 9.10 am

Sophie Smith - Running for Premature Babies

A reminder that we have invited Sophie Smith in to speak before the assembly this week. The school was introduced to Sophie by a small group of Mum’s who heard her speak at an International Women's Day function. They were so inspired by Sophie’s story that they requested an audience to involve St Margaret Mary’s in her charity - Running for premature babies. I hope you can join us on Friday around 2.40 pm to meet this inspirational Australian.
