IDAHOBIT DAY
On Wednesday 17th May, Bairnsdale Secondary College celebrated the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia. To kick off proceedings, a Webex was held during Session 2 with speeches delivered by staff and students of our College, as well as guest speakers from Headspace and the HEY (Healthy Equal Youth) Project.
The fun began at the beginning of Break 1 where everyone assembled at the outdoor basketball courts for music, beading, free Zooper Doopers and an array of information available for students from Headspace and HEY. We thank our visitors for their attendance on the day and for anyone wanting to get involved with either of these organisations, details are below:
East Gippsland H.E.Y (Healthy Equal Youth) Project: if you're aged between 12-25 and are passionate about supporting LGBTQIA+ young people in your area, then the H.E.Y Project is for you! They are a team of young people like you working together to run awesome events, develop resources and influence equality in the East Gippsland community. If you want to make positive changes, meet new people and learn new skills, find them on Facebook or Instagram.
Headspace UBU Group: a social and community group who meet in a safe, inclusive space for LGBTQIA+ young people and their allies. Lead by Headspace workers - eat, play games, have facilitated discussions, share queer Netflix recommendations, do trivia, just hang out and chat …. all kinds of things! UBU is all about forging connections and community in a safe, low-pressure environment that is queer-friendly and fun-focused!
Senior UBU for ages 16-25 runs every fortnight on a Thursday from 4 pm – 5.30 pm at the Hub on Dalmahoy Street, Bairnsdale. For more information, call 5141 6200 or email ubu@rav.org.au This group is proudly supported by the GLCH East Gippsland H.E.Y Project Working Group.
