From the Principal

As our year continues to settle, it is great to see the students becoming busy and getting into the routines of their normal academic year. Over the past week, the government has once again removed some COVID-19 restrictions, with the need to use the Check in TAS app no longer applicable. In general, on the COVID-19 front we still have varied numbers of students and staff reporting positive, but we will stay vigilant to our requirements to ensure student safety is at the forefront of all of our decisions.

Arrival at school

I would like to remind parents/carers and students of the expectation that students will not be on site at school before 8.15am. In the Junior School, Before School Care is available if it becomes essential for you and there are spaces available in that facility.  Our staff begin their outside duty at 8.15am and I would encourage the students not to be on site prior.

Sub-committee membership

Earlier this week our Board of Management met to discuss the 2022 year and beyond.  A decision has been made to reintroduce some sub-committees of the Board. This will allow members of our community to provide some expertise in their area of strength that may value add to the future of St Mary’s College.

The sub-committees are listed below:

  • Finance
  • Master Building Plan
  • Education Development
  • Publicity and Promotions
  • Charism and Spirituality
  • WH&S

If you would like to express an interest in joining a sub-committee, please email dmesser@smc.tas.edu.au. At this stage the sub-committees will meet once a term for approximately 45 minutes to an hour.

COVID-19 update

As I mentioned above, there have been some minor changes to COVID-19 restrictions and safety requirements. The link on our website here will provide you with all the updated information.

Co-curricular

It has been fantastic to see so many students get involved with the co-curricular program. Around 60 of our students have signed up for this year's College musical, The Addams Family—we look forward to sharing more details with you soon. Rowing is off to a strong start, with our crews training hard for the next Regatta, and our junior and senior swimming teams are preparing for their upcoming carnivals. We wish them all well. Many of our summer sporting teams are hitting the fields and courts around Hobart representing our College with great pride. I thank all those who have made the commitment so far to be involved and encourage those who haven’t to explore the options and find something that suits them.
