Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) Report

Year 9 Timber started off the year creating a frame using a number of different timber joints. This project allows the students to understand different ways to join timber and how to use a number of hand tools.

While Year 10 have been busy designing a chess board using a Pine and Meranti Timber. The project allows students to use some power tools including the Bandsaw and Domino Jointer.

 

 

In Food Tech Year 9 have just completed their first assignment in which they had to cook a multicultural feast over two periods. Each pair selected a cuisine from a country and produce the dish for all student to enjoy. They had two periods to produce the dish then sit together and eat it. While year 10 are busy learning and health and nutrition, next term the will be finding out about food inequity.

 

The Year 10 Metal class have been very productive in their practical work and are now demonstrating great skills and knowledge in the production of their practical projects. Quality is our focus with accurate marking out and manufacturing to high quality standards.

Most components have been produced for the motorbike quick-lift project with both oxygen acetylene and MIG welding processes. Next term students will be oxy cutting, plasma cutting, sand blasting and spray painting their projects before designing their own project.

 

 

The interest electives Fishing has had a strong start to the year with Mr McAuliffe taking his fishing class away on their first excursion to Lake Eucumbene for 3 days. All students managed not to get wet although they did have fun camping and catching fish.  

 

Agriculture students have been involved with many aspects of Agriculture this year. Students have had the opportunity to groom our 2 young heifers and develop skills in animal management and handling.

Year 9 and 10 Agriculture students have been busy preparing Poultry for the Sydney Royal Easter Show. These birds will be entered in the Schools Egg Laying Competition and the Steggles Meat Bird Pairs Competition
