Canberra Conference

This week we travelled to Canberra to participate in a national French educators' conference. This is the first time we have been in the same room since 2019 and the opportunity to share experiences, meet new staff and reconnect with French embassy staff and advisors was invaluable.

AEFE French Inspector Visit

Next week we are hosting a visit from the AEFE French inspector for the Asia-Pacific region Bruno Seweryn. He will meet our staff and students, community members and formally accredit our Year 6 program for French Education.

Principal Mentoring Program

Mr. John Painter joins our school for the next four weeks as part of a principal mentoring program supported by the DET. John is currently the assistant principal at Beaumaris Primary School. Welcome and we hope your stay with us is enjoyable and professionally rewarding.

Positive Cases

Children who return a positive RA test must stay at home for seven days and isolate. Siblings of the positive student must also stay at home as an identified close contact. We ask families to contact the office and report these positive tests so we can inform staff, the class and the community. Your continued positive support and management has been greatly appreciated and very reassuring.

NAPLAN

On the 24th of March (next Thursday), students from Year 3 and 5 will complete a practice NAPLAN test. To complete these assessments, students require headphones and we ask that they be kept at school until the practice tests are completed. These tests are compulsory sessions that students must complete in order to familiarise themselves with the new online platform and to also ensure that the online systems have the capacity to handle all schools completing it across the country. I know our students will approach these practice assessments with optimism, resilience and the knowledge that their years at CJC have prepared them well. For more information about the upcoming NAPLAN tests, please visit our dedicated NAPLAN page in this issue of the newsletter.

School Photos

School photos have been rescheduled to Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th May.  Further information and how to order details will be provided closer to the date.

Lightning Premiership

Congratulations to all our Year 5 and 6 students who participated in the Lightning Premiership sports event last Tuesday.  Their efforts and sportsmanship made us proud.

French Film Festival

This year's edition of Alliance Française's  French Film Festival has something for everyone. The movies have been carefully curated to bring the best francophone cinema to Australia. With several venues around Melbourne, it is an event not to be missed.  Gather friends and family and head down for an evening of entertainment! The 2022 edition of the festival concludes on Tuesday 26 April.

Punctuality & school uniforms

It is imperative that families do everything in their power to ensure that their children arrive at school on time.  Not only is it teaching an essential life skill to our young ones, but it maximises the learning in the classrooms.  A number of students continue to arrive late and the disruptions are impacting the whole class.  If your child arrives after 9.00am, they are late and must be signed in by a parent/carer at the Compass kiosk at reception.

Our new Year 5 and 6 jackets have arrived and the children are wearing them with great pride. The importance of school pride and wearing your school uniform correctly reflects on our children and the wider school community. Watching our children arrive each day, ready to learn and resplendent in their CJC uniforms is such a positive feeling indeed.

Training Teachers, Education Support and Counsellors

Welcome to our training teachers, education support and counsellors from Monash University and Homesglen TAFE. Our school partners and the opportunity to support the training and development of our new teachers is a focus for school staff and leadership team members.

There are many new faces to see around CJC at the moment:

  • Catherine Olweny and Shuen Ho (Masters of Counselling) are working with the wellbeing team to provide social and emotional student support.
  • Shreyasi Chakraborty and Fiona O’Hare (Certificate IV in Education Support) are working with the intervention team to provide academic student support.
  • Bobby Tran, Stephanie Huang, Aedan Gordon, Tessa Canning and James Newton (Bachelor of Education and Masters of Teaching) are working in Prep A, Prep B, 1/2C, 3C/D and 5/6A respectively, to develop their teaching skills.

We welcome all of them to CJC!

French Bilingual Conference

I had the privilege of joining Mr Chant and Madame Pommier for the annual French Bilingual Conference in Canberra. As a new member of the CJC community, it was a greatly beneficial experience to network with other bilingual schools to gain a greater understanding and appreciation for bilingual education. One of the key things I am taking away from that conference is that in many respects, CJC is leading the way and we offer a quality educational program like no other.

I am looking forward to more opportunities in the future to further deepen my understandings and to share best practice with our colleagues.
