The Habitat Helpers incursion

Anna Pummeroy, ELC Teacher

Last week, the Magenta and Magnolia children were treated to the fun of learning through drama and the arts, becoming immersed in an exciting incursion called ‘Habitat Helpers.’

Wearing sparkling green capes, everyone became a Superhero (Habitat Helper), exploring sustainability issues and helping to save the planet!

Listening and engaging with the presenter, Fairlie, the children ably assisted 'Earth Girl' by travelling to different global destinations to discover the impact of pollution, logging, overfishing and poor water management on local communities.

Working together, the children tackled the sustainability issues and created local actions to address the problems in each region they visited.

This wonderful incursion provided so many meaningful moments to complement and enhance the children’s learning within their current educational program.

As confident and involved learners, the children engaged in learning relationships with Fairlie and each other. They made connections between experiences, concepts and processes to build their understanding and ability to contribute to their world in relation to sustainable practices.

Well done everyone!
