LANGUAGES at ASC
This year we have many students studying Languages at ASC. YEAR 8 have begun their mandatory Language studies in either French, Japanese or German with three classes of each language! We also have a large number of students doing year 9 and 10 Japanese as well as Beginners and Continuers in year 11 and 12. We also have some students doing distance Education in other languages such as Korean. We are very fortunate to have such great programmes supported in our school. These programs not only improve student literacy and adaptability, they also teach students deep learning about other cultures and develop tolerance and cross-cultural understanding. We also thank parents and carers in supporting their children in their learning. Why not ask the students what they have learnt and even learn some new words and expressions with them!

Japanese
This year Mrs Moore Sensei and Mrs Jenny Fullon Sensei are teaching our Japanese program at ASC.
Year 8 Japanese
Students have been learning self introductions and also Hiragana Script. Students are progressing well and achieving their various "belts" as they progress through their hiragana levels.
Japan Foundation Visit
On Thursday February 24th, five staff from the Japan Foundation in Sydney visited our school and ran sessions with Year 9 and 10 Japanese and also the year 9 Anime and Manga project-based learning elective. Students played a quiz game on culture and language and winners were given some prizes! We then watched the Anime Movie Summer wars whilst eating Japanese snacks! The students and staff enjoyed this fun and interesting activity. We hope we can keep having such events at school in the future.
Video Conferences
This year we will also continue our video conferences with Japan. Some classes will communicate with students in Inami Junior High School, Toyama on Monday. We have had our exchange with Inami for over 35 years, yet due to COVID they have not visited us for 2 years. We are now re-establishing our communications via video conference. We hope we can meet them in person soon.
