Year 7 Camp

We are excited that our Year 7 Orientation Camp is coming up on Thursday 17th – Friday 18th March. This is a getting to know you activity for students to build connections with each other and the local area. Some of the areas of the camp include visits to - ACMI, Queen Victoria Market, Dream City, Collingwood College, Wurun Senior Campus for a VET cooked dinner and Fitzroy Gardens. Families are reminded students will need to bring a mattress to sleep on, pillow, sleeping bag or doona and clothing for the next day. The first day all students will need a packed lunch and snacks. Please no sugar based drinks (soft drink, energy drinks) or foods. Students need their own Myki card with $10 on it. We can’t wait to spend some time out exploring our local area!

A reminder the camp is $70.00 per student. Please contact the office for payment details.

Year 8 Interschool Cricket Victories

On Thursday, 3rd March, the year 8 boys involved in cricket interschool sport ventured out to Coburg to compete again in other schools with great success. It was fantastic to see the boys display great leadership and great comradery.

In the first game against Coburg after bowling first, a target of 93 was set. Some great bowling and fielding were evident throughout. The challenge was set and to the boys' credit after some great tactical batting, we were able to chase down the target only a couple of wickets down and ended up on 105/4 after our 12 overs.

After a rest in the middle of the day, the boys were fresh and were able to restrict Ilim College to only 38 runs after 12 overs which was a fantastic display. After a shaky start and the loss of a few wickets, the boys were able to chase down the total in the 9th over 5 down.

Due to winning both games, we were crowned Moreland Division champions and move on to the next round.

Special mention to Ocea who is one of our year 10 house captains and was a fantastic help on the day.

The overall player of the day was Osgar who batted wonderfully including a 75 not out.

A great team effort overall.

Well done

YEAR 9 & 10

It has been a really positive experience stepping into the Year 9/10 Education and Programs role this year at Collingwood College.  In addition to teaching across Year 9 and 10, I am enjoying getting to know the cohort and am looking forward to becoming acquainted with all students as the term progresses.  Year 9/10 students have settled into the school year well, and appear happy to be back in the classroom with their peers and engaged with their learning. This is clearly visible as I move around the third floor during class time.

All Year 9 & 10 Home Groups have  collaboratively devised Classroom Norms for Term 1 - referencing  our whole-school Student Responsibilities and School Values.  The aim of these  student-generated norms is to create a positive environment and culture that promotes learning and respectful relationships.

Year 9 students have also set learning goals during Home Group, and were introduced to the My Careers Insights program (Morrisby) this week which will be an exciting opportunity to start thinking about future careers and pathways.  Similarly, Year 10 students have explored the importance of setting goals and have considered their own character strengths.

The Enhancement Program is underway with a small number of Year 10 students undertaking a VCE subject at the Wurun campus, or VET subject, and I would like to commend all students involved for their efforts to manage their new responsibilities and accelerated learning.

This week, all students received planners to assist with organisation and meeting set deadlines.  Students are expected to record all homework in the planner, take it home with them every night and bring it back the next day. I also encourage parents/carers to actively reference the planner.

Year level Coordinators, James Agombar (Year 9) and Hannah Young (Year 10) are also working closely with the cohort to support the learning and social/emotional needs of all students.

I look forward to greeting families throughout the course of the year.  Please do not hesitate to make contact should you have any questions.  lori.michael@education.vic.gov.au

Well done Year 9 & 10 - you are doing a terrific job at being kind, supportive and respectful!
