Interview with Liam Charleston

Interview with Mr Liam Charleston

Music Teacher

How long have you worked at BNPS?

I completed my University Degree last year and completed my final year placement in Year 3. I was ecstatic to join the Music team this year.

Who  inspires you?

Music is definitely a huge inspiration to me. I have met so many wonderful people through doing theatre that have helped shape me as a creative person.

What is your favourite thing to do on the weekends?

I am usually directing, rehearsing or performing in a musical. I don’t usually have too much downtime but I absolutely love being on the go!

Are you an early bird or a night owl?

Definitely a night owl! The 8:30am school briefing is definitely a test.

If you weren't a teacher, what do you think you might be doing?

I was recently working my way up in a tech company but I am so glad to have become a music teacher where I can plan and execute classes that revolve so closely around my passion.

What might someone be surprised to know about you?

I performed on Broadway in 2017 in a production of Crazy For You. It was certainly a pivotal moment in my creative development. It also was the moment I decided to step into directing and creating roles, it was shortly after that I began my degree.

What is something you saw recently that made you smile?

I constantly love seeing my students giving things ago, taking risks and not afraid of laughing at their mistakes. It’s been lovely to create a safe space in the music room.

If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would you choose ?

It would have to be film or theatre director, I would definitely love to work in the big leagues one day!

What would you like to say to your students?

Keep smiling, keep shining! I’m here to make music a fun and engaging experience for all!
