Year Six News

It has been an incredibly busy and productive start to the year! We have settled in to our new classes, appointed our Year 6 leadership team, started Interschool Sport, and we have our House Swimming carnival tomorrow!

Our Year 6s are also commencing a student-driven initiative today -  ‘Take Action Thursday’. During the last hour on Thursdays, the Year 6 cohort will be engaged in meetings and activities specific to their leadership roles.

Many of the children are also passionate about making improvements around our school to support learning. They will be designing, planning and helping to create an outdoor learning space behind the Senior Learning Centre. This area is currently not very user-friendly and needs a good facelift! Through initial discussions, the students have come up with some practical and inexpensive ideas to make the space more functional, including adding outdoor seating, shade from market umbrellas and perhaps even fake grass for comfort.

The Year 6 students are very excited about the idea of developing the area outside our classrooms to make it more useable and made a proposal to Mrs Duffy this week. We have been given the green light to start taking action!

Jack – “It would be great to have some seating around the tree.”

Flynn – “Outdoor beanbags would be cool – we could lounge around for Read to Self.”

Charlotte – “I think having a vegie patch or garden bed would be good to give us responsibility for taking care of it.

Kieran – “If we had a whiteboard on the brick wall we could learn outside.”

If there are any parents or family members who have expertise or resources that could assist with this project, we look forward to hearing from you! beaumaris.north.ps@education.vic.gov.au
