Year 4 News

Welcome to Year 4

Swimming

We have begun our school year, trekking down to the local swimming pool for a survival skills intensive program. The teachers began building relationships with the students through the walk to and from, which was nice from a wellbeing point of view.

We also feel well-prepared for our house swimming carnival that we are looking forward to on Friday.

This is the first time our Year 4’s have had the opportunity to swim and qualify for the district swimming, which makes it even more exciting.

Literacy

In literacy we have begun Smart Spelling, while launching Daily 5 activities such as read to self and listen to reading.

Classes have begun a class novel which sparks some great literary discussion. We are writing narratives from picture prompts, remembering they have a problem and resolution.

Maths

In maths we have been exploring place value, problem solving through Matharoo worded problems, rounding numbers and mapping.

Ask your child about the Multiplication Mash up song – a fun way to learn your times tables! It’s even stuck in the teacher’s minds (all weekend!).

Inquiry

In Inquiry we have just completed our Learning Task on Children’s Rights. We are sure you’ve all been hearing about rights your children have, but we have also learnt that they come with responsibility too.

We have ranked the rights in terms of most needed to least important. This has linked well with “Needs versus Wants” concept, which leads us into our next unit of inquiry, 'Communities Evolve in Response to many Factors'.

Children have also explored the rights and experiences of children globally through BTN and Kids News.
