COVIDSafe Measures extension 17 February 2022

I want to thank parents and students for the great job they have done in keeping our school as safe as possible by following important COVIDSafe measures such as mask wearing, physical distancing, ventilation, getting vaccinated and rapid antigen testing.

This has meant that our school has remained open and our students in class. This is a fantastic outcome and a testament to the hard work of parents, carers, students and school staff.

Rapid Antigen Tests

To keep schools as safe as possible, the Victorian Government has extended the COVIDSafe measures introduced for the beginning of Term 1.

This includes extending the availability of free rapid antigen tests (RAT) for screening until the end of term. It is anticipated an additional 24 million RATs will be provided to schools and early childhood settings to continue to support early detection and prevent infection, for use at home.

The need for this program will continue to be monitored, and may end earlier based on health advice. This is great news and will mean we’re able to continue identifying COVID-19 cases as early as possible, reducing the impact on our school and individuals.

The department will continue to supply RATs to our school for your use. The twice-a-week testing continues to be strongly recommended for both students and staff.

Ventilation

Improving ventilation is one of the most effective measures to keep education settings safe. 51,000 air purifiers were delivered to schools by Term 1, 2022 to support COVIDSafe settings in schools.

Up to an additional 60,000 air purifiers will be rolled out to schools ahead of winter to supplement natural and mechanical ventilation during the cooler months.   The winter allocation will provide enough purifiers to cover all classrooms in government schools and based on current enrolments.

Mask rules will remain the same, with students in Grade 3 and above required to wear masks – although they will not be required outdoors.

On behalf of the school, I would like to thank you again for your continued support in helping your child to complete the rapid antigen tests and other COVIDSafe measures. As a result of these efforts our school can continue providing a safe environment for students and staff.

Please ensure to send your child/children to school each day with a face mask. It would be very helpful if the children had a few spares in their school bag. We are still awaiting the arrival of spare face masks from the Department.

Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.

Meet and Greet

Thank you for your support with our online Meet and Greet sessions. We had a high percentage of families participating in the 'online' format and many more working parents  were able to participate compared to coming up to school in person.

House Swimming Friday 25 February

Our House Swimming Sports will be held this Friday.  This will also be the first time to see our House Captains in their Leadership roles.

Congratulations also to our Year 4 students who have just completed their intensive swimming program.  It is wonderful seeing activities return almost to normal.

Whole School – Resilience Project Incursion

All of our students at BNPS had a visit from Elias and Phoebe from ‘The Resilience Project’ to talk about the three secrets to being happy:

  • Gratitude
  • Empathy/Kindness
  • Mindfulness

The students engaged in the session by explaining the meaning of these words, discussing various emotions and sharing their own experiences.

The students were given a challenge to do 3 things to practice these skills:

Challenge 1 – “DIS” Challenge – When you see something you appreciate and value over the next 24 hours, point to it and say “DIS” to show you are grateful for it.

Challenge 2 – “Random Act of Kindness Challenge” – Over the next day, think about doing something kind for someone around you and think about how it makes you feel.

Challenge 3 – Mindfulness – Try to be present and think about the now.

Scooters and Bikes

Please note that if students bring scooters and bikes to school they are NOT to be ridden within the school grounds.     Please walk bikes and scooters no matter how tempting it is to ride.  Note that the school takes no responsibility for the security of bikes and scooters – however we do our best to ensure that they are secure.

Insurance

Student accident insurance, ambulance cover arrangements and private property brought to school

Parents are reminded that the Department does not provide personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for students. Parents and guardians of students, who do not have student accident insurance/ambulance cover, are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance or transport as well as any other transport costs.

In some circumstances, medical or other expenses will be paid by the Department where it is assessed that it is likely, that the Department is liable for negligent (careless) acts or omissions of its staff or volunteers. More information about the claims process is available below.

Where there is no whole-of-school policy in place, it is the responsibility of parents or guardians to look into their preferred options in this regard. The Department cannot provide advice to parents or guardians on the purchase of individual student accident policy or ambulance cover.

Private property brought to school by students, staff or visitors is not insured and the Department does not accept any responsibility for any loss or damage.

This can include mobile phones, calculators, toys, sporting equipment and cars parked on school premises. As the Department does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools and has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property, students and staff should be discouraged from bringing any unnecessary or particularly valuable items to school.

Beaumaris North PS does not have a whole-of-school policy meaning that:

  • parents or guardians of students, who do not have student accident insurance, are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance or transport as well as any other transport costs; and
  • parents or guardians can purchase insurance policies from commercial insurers.

The Department does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools and it has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property.
