The Arts

I would like to convey a warm welcome to you from the Arts and Design Faculty. We wish you all an exciting, creative, and innovative start to 2022.

The Arts and Design Faculty at our school this year covers the subject areas of Digital Technology, Drama, Food Technology, Media, Music, Product Design, Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design. Students have access to these areas of study as semester-based electives.

In Arts and Design subject areas students learn important skills about themselves and the world around them. They progressively become creative and critical thinkers; effective and confident communicators; inspired and empathetic individuals who shape their local community and the environment around them; creative and intuitive problem-solvers; and principled and appreciative explorers of the world around them. All these skills are important for the development of future individuals who are part of a productive and caring society.

This year we aspire to have students around the school be actively involved in curricular and extra-curricular activities in the areas of Arts and Design. We also look forward to inviting you to attend our Faculty’s upcoming events and keeping you up-to-date with our Faculty initiatives through the school’s social media.

Students this semester will be looking at arts and design products from a range of times and cultures. We also aspire to have students actively involved with the Melbourne Arts and Design community and look forward to assisting students in understanding themselves and their world through visual art works, performance works, products and designs.

IMPORTANT NOTICE for parents regarding instrumental classes

Oakleigh Grammar outsources Instrumental Music Teachers to provide students with

the opportunity to take part in weekly private or small group lessons. The following instruments are available in 2022:

Piano/Keyboard

Flute

Saxophone

ABC Program

Junior: Prep – 3

Senior: Years 4 & 5

Drums/Percussion

Trumpet

Voice

Guitar

Clarinet

In addition to offering specific instrumental music lessons, students have the opportunity to participate in the ABC Music Program, which allows them to experiment with a variety of instruments and find which one/s might be most suitable for them. This is often a good option for younger students, or if your child isn’t yet sure which instrument to learn. Please note that some instruments such as brass and woodwind may not be suitable for all younger students. If you have an enquiry regarding your child’s participation, you are encouraged to contact the relevant teachers for more information.

Our highly experienced Instrumental Music Teachers teach weekly music lessons in rotating lesson slots within the school. There are 16 x 30 minute lessons in a semester. Full payment for the semester needs to be made in advance to ensure that your child secures a spot and receives their lessons at the commencement of the term. Enrolments throughout the term are encouraged, and will be accepted at the discretion of the Instrumental Music Teacher, with pro-rata fees being charged. Instrumental Music fees have now been brought in line with Industry standards, which are updated every year.
