Middle School

It has been a pleasure to welcome back the students of the Middle School. They have returned refreshed and ready to tackle the challenges of the new school year. I would also like to welcome our new students and families. I am looking forward to working with all the families of the Middle School again this year.

The term has started with a number of important events and opportunities for our students to be involved in school life. The Inter-house Swimming Carnival was a vista of blue, green and red as students dressed in House colours to cheer on competitors. At the end of the day, Bradman House was victorious. Congratulations to all who attended and participated.

We welcomed parents back onsite to attend the Student Leadership Induction Assembly last Friday. Sharing these important moments with families has been something we have truly missed over the past two years. We certainly look forward to more opportunities for these to take place in 2022.

As always, my door is open and I am very happy to be contacted if you have questions

or concerns.

Years 8 and 9

With events and experiences in full swing, the start of Term 1 has been full of excitement and positive energy. Our Year 8 and 9 students let their competitive sides show at the Inter-house Swimming Carnival. With their House colours on display and crowd chants spurring on athletes from each team, our Middle School students made sure to capitalise on a great day out in the sun.

Following from their Training Day our Year 9 students were eager and ready to go to Wilson’s Prom for their Hike. They spent time bonding as teams, learning how to pitch a tent, and packed their bags eagerly awaiting the adventure ahead of them. Let’s hope the sun stays shining as we make our way down to one of the most beautiful places in Australia!

Years 6 and 7

Welcome to 2022! We certainly have hit the ground running.

Success is ours to achieve. As a learning community we aspire to achieve success every day. Success is often focused on the individual, but it is more effectively achieved when there is collaboration to realise goals for both individuals and groups.

At Oakleigh Grammar, we pride ourselves on our community. It is pivotal to obtaining success on all levels. The pastoral care of our students is front and centre of what we do. In 2022, we have commenced the year with a whole day approach to settle our students back into a routine and ensure they are ready to tackle challenges in a calm way.

Our students in Years 6 and 7 have been busy learning to organise themselves, crack codes on locks, navigate the timetable and build new relationships. Students have also had the opportunity to identify their learner profiles and how they best learn. This is not always an easy feat but with the support of their Home Group teachers, this has certainly been possible.

The first few weeks have provided us with the opportunity to run Wellbeing Days. This is an opportunity for students to challenge themselves, work together and establish relationships with both their peers and pastoral teachers. The focus has been on working together towards success. On the Year 6 Wellbeing Day we constructed a suitable analogy as we climbed the 1000 Steps. Whilst we could see the difficulty of the climb and felt strain when we put one foot in front of the other, we can achieve success through persistence and by working together.

The Year 7 Wellbeing day was also a great success.

Whilst there will still be some anxieties please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s Home Group teacher or myself. Communication is key to ensuring that we can meet the needs of your child together.

I would like to thank the Home Group teachers and support staff, Mr Wu, Mrs Takos, Ms Sacco, Miss Busuttil, Ms Smit and Mrs Maramis, for their work and effort since the start of the term. We work together to ensure that your child is cared for.
