SPORTING NEWS

PAPER FREE

As a school we are trying to reduce our carbon footprint and are going paperless for sports notes this year. All sporting events will be sent out via Compass and parents will notify of their child's interest via the Events link in Compass. There is no need to print off notes and send them in as their interest is automatically recorded. Their selection of events for the swimming and athletics carnivals are also done using Compass. When a registration fee is required for a Diocesan sport e.g. Winter trials, Compass Pay will be available for this.  Please contact the office staff if you are having difficulties accessing Compass.

ST NICHOLAS SCHOOL 2022 SWIMMING CARNIVAL

The first event on our sporting calendar is the Swimming Carnival which will be held at City Pool tomorrow, Friday 18 February 2022. We would ask that all students be at City Pool by 8:30am so that we can start the Carnival at 9:00am sharp. Please note that only students turning 8 this year and older will be participating in the Carnival. Kinder and Year 1 students will be remaining at school. Children in Year 2 who are turning 7 this year will be able to compete but will not be eligible for selection in the Diocesan team.

At our School Swimming Carnival each year we split the students up into three (3) groups:

  • Confident 50m swimmers
  • 25m swimmers
  • Non-swimmers

Non-swimmers are only to compete in the novelty events and are not allowed to swim in a 50m or 25m race.  If a student is swimming in a 50m race they cannot swim in the 25m race in the same stroke.

Upon arrival at the swimming carnival students who are non-swimmers MUST wear a wrist band which will be issued by a teacher as they enter the pool.

Students will need to get their name marked off by their grade supervising teacher once they enter the pool and again before they leave in the afternoon.  If students are not getting collected at the pool by their parent or guardian, they need to email their class teacher prior to the day giving consent.

Please note that all children are expected to make their own way to and from the carnival. There will be a bus bringing children back to school for Esteem after school care or if you are unable to collect your child from the pool. You must contact the office to book a spot on the bus for your child.

There will be a canteen in operation but the children will only be allowed to visit once as they can only go up in year groups. THERE WILL BE NO SAUSAGE SIZZLE. Students are encouraged to bring their own recess, lunch and plenty of water to drink.

BASKETBALL

Teams have been formed and Mrs Tyrrell sent home a team code for you to register online. Please make sure that you have done this before games commence.

If your child is in Kinder, Year 1 or Year 2 please register for Aussie Hoops (modified basketball) by clicking on the following link. The school does not organise teams for this as it is a skills based program run by Basketball Australia.

FUTSAL

Unfortunately there has not been enough interest in Futsal from other schools / clubs to form a competition. Hopefully this will go ahead in Term 4.

HOCKEY

Year 2 and Year 4 have been putting their hockey skills to the test this week whilst undertaking a hockey skills clinic with Northern Inland Regional Participation Coordinator Greg Doolan and Tamworth Hockey Administration Officer Julie Rodda. These clinics for Year 2 and Year 4 will run for the next six weeks. Thank you to Mrs Tyrrell for obtaining a sports grant for the school to purchase a set of hockey sticks.

Tamworth Hockey Association are running a 5-week Primary Schools competition commencing on Monday 28 February 2022. The competition will be based on fun and development and there is no cost to participants. Games will be from 4:00-6:00pm. Please reply using Compass with your consent so Mrs Tyrrell can put you in a team.
