Principal's Report

From Christian's desk....

Vale, Ken Baxter

Last week we received news that our school’s founding principal, Ken Baxter, passed away.  Over the course of the week I have heard and read about Ken’s history and love of Croydon Hills Primary School.

Ken was appointed in 1987 prior to the opening of the school in 1988.  Ken was instrumental in the development of the school’s facilities and early successes. Pictured below is Ken standing in the Principal’s office!

An enduring legacy is the school’s OSHC program. Ken appointed Debby Sedgewick as the OSHC coordinator in 1989.  Debby remembers Ken as ‘a lovely man’.  When Ken returned to the school for our 30 year anniversary he was amazed by the enormity of the program.

When Ken retired in 1994 he was given a helmet and asked to come outside.  He jumped on the back of a Harley Davidson and was driven up and down Campaspe Drive with all of the children lining the fence and cheering and waving to him.

Today, at approximately 2:30pm, following Ken’s funeral, the hearse and procession will be slowly driving down Campaspe Drive.  The school community are invited to once again line our school fence and wave to Ken.

On behalf of the community I wish Diane and Ken’s family and friends our condolences and warmest thoughts at this sad time.

Congratulations Dale McInerney

Earlier in the week Dale McInerney received news that he has been appointed Acting Principal at Menzies Creek Primary School for Term 1, 2020.  This is yet another significant milestone in Dale’s career.  Congratulations Dale and all the best.  You'll be a great asset to MCPS!

Carol Wyatt, who previously planned to reduce her time fraction to three days per week in 2020 will now work full time in Term 1, 2020.

School Captains Announced

Over the past fortnight the students, staff and the Principal team have completed the process of electing our four 2020 School Captains and our 16 Sub-School Captains.

I commend the Senior School staff who led the process, particularly the importance they placed on the students selecting their candidates.

The 2020 School Captains, pictured below with the 2019 School Captains, will be introduced to the school community at our Celebration Assembly next Friday 13th December at 2:40pm.  Our Sub-School Captains will be introduced at our Badge Presentation Assembly next year.

Christmas Carol’s On The Oval

Last night the community gathered for our annual Christmas Carols. The night was full of colour, laughter and Christmas cheer. A highlight for mine was the overall spectacle of the evening. I particularly liked how all the children were assembled together, supporting their peers, with families surrounding them, consuming the oval.  Well done Brodie King, Laura Yorke and all of the staff who gave up a night of their time to ensure the event was a success.  Thank you also to Mick Hewlett and David Moreland for your technical support.

The season of thanks continues

On Tuesday morning, on behalf of the CHPS Community, the Croydon Hills Association of Parents put on a morning tea for all of our staff.  Thank you to all the families who acknowledged the great work our staff put into their childrens’ education.

Emergency Management Evacuation Drill Conducted

This morning we completed an Emergency Management Evacuation Drill.  The exercise was a success. As with any exercise we have reflected on our practice and will make minor adjustments to our processes.
