Student Leadership

2019 Student Leadership Application Process

It is a very exciting time for our Year 5 students and soon-to-be leaders of the school.

Over the past few weeks the teachers of Year 5 have been supporting students to look ahead to 2019, and formally apply for one of the many meaningful leadership roles on offer. Each and every student will have a role, and contribute to the school with their thoughts and ideas.

The following is a commentary on the process by Georgia M & Ben T from Year 5.

Recently the Grade 5 students went through the process of becoming a 2019 Year 6 leader. All grade 5 students wrote a speech that could be presented to the teachers if they wanted to go for school captain. Then 10 of the students with the best speech and real life evidence that they were a good candidate for 2019 BRPS School Captain would present in front of the Grade 4 and 5 students. Our captains for next year have been decided and will be announced to the school community soon.

But what happens to the 6 runner ups for School Captain? Those who were not successful , along with the rest of the year level, then wrote applications for one of the many other leadership roles on offer. Here are some examples:

The Buddy Captain, The Student Voice Action Team, House Captains, Peer Activity Leaders, The STEM Committee and many more roles.

The question is how did the Year 5 Students come up with such quality speeches? Well, the Year 5 students learned how to write a proper speech in class, following a strategy taught by our teachers called STAR. (Situation, Task, Action and

Results).

We are so excited to lead BRPS next year as Year 6 students, and leave our mark on our amazing school.
