AUSLAN

Since the start of the year the Grade Prep, 1, 2, and 3 students have been learning a few Auslan greetings, learning how to fingerspell the alphabet, and really practising maintaining eye contact, which is a core part of the Auslan language.

Just this week we have been practicing watching the person signing, as we know in Auslan your eyes are your ears, and your hands are your mouth. Ask the students about the game Rocket Ship and also the game of bingo and they can explain how we used Auslan to play.

The Auslan team also wanted to share how to sign the school values: RISE. Check out the pictures below to see, and feel free to ask any of the Auslan team if you see us before or after school and we would be happy to show you!

TIN TOPS

Year 4 students used recycled tin lids and embellish them with beads and buttons to create radiating patterns and explore symmetry and colour harmonies.

MINI-BEASTS

Years 1 & 2 use found paper sources (magazines, newspapers and advertising materials) and coloured art paper to make a collage. The inspiration is 'insects'. What can you see?

MORE MINI-BEASTS

Insects are explored in greater complexity by the Year 3 art class. Notorious tricky Pastel is controlled  by smudging and shading, fineliner pens add detail to these insects. Works are mounted on recycled newsprint.
