Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Families and Community members,

Prep-2 Oval Closure

The Prep- 2 Oval will be out of action from next week and into Term 4 as contractors will be undertaking drainage works to connect services for the Oberon High School relocation which is currently under construction.

Significant steps have been taken to ensure that community safety is optimised during the works, including two separate temporary fence lines being erected prior to and throughout the project.

Our large oval is still in action and students in P-2 will be able to play at one end of the oval during recess and lunch times, older students having access to the opposite end.

The works should have minimal if any impact on the day to day operations of the school; however, if you do see anything of concern, please let us know.

Work Experience Student - Dan

This week Dan Griffin joined us from Grovedale College to complete his Work Experience Week.  Below is  a short summary of his time with us:

"I really enjoyed my time at Armstrong Creek School this week.  I spent time in the Prep and 5-6 Learning Communities and in PE and Stem.  I am a Black Belt in Karate and was able to share some of my skills with the students during the week. I taught them basic moves, like punches and kicks and how to defend themselves.  The students were really respectful and well behaved and were very excited about doing karate with me.

I would like to thank Evan, Dehlia, Arron and the 5-6 and Prep Teams for giving me the opportunity to work at the school and for taking care of me which has given me valuable work experience.  Thanks to all the students too, who were so much fun!"

Late Arrival To School

Each day, student learning starts promptly at 8.55am.

If students arrive at school after 8.55am, please ensure that a parent\carer accompanies them to the office to sign them in on the Compass Kiosk before they head to their Learning Community.  Students will receive a pass to give to their teacher so that they know they have been signed in.

Geelong Animal Rescue

We will be collecting donations for Geelong Animal Rescue (GAR) over the first 4 weeks of Term 4.

GAR is a 100% volunteer run organisation that relies on the community to help rescue and re-home animals. Through the placement of Donation Bins, GAR are able to provide food and supplies (beds, leads/collars) to the foster animals in their care.

We are asking for donations of canned food, blankets, toys etc, please bring your donations in to the office.

The GAR guide is attached below for more information on the amazing work they do.

Art Show

The Wild Art Show is just around the corner and our students have created amazing works of art to contribute to the exhibition!

The Prep Learning Community have created an incredible yellow animal montage titled ‘The Wild Rumpus’. It is covered from top to bottom with every animal you can imagine.

The 1/2 Learning Community have created an artwork titled ‘The Jungle’ with their own interpretation of the varied and beautiful plants that can be found in the jungle.

Finding Nemo inspired the 3/4 Learning Community to create their piece, which depicts a fast moving current much like the EAC (Eastern Australian Current) from Finding Nemo. So is aptly named “The Journey”.

The 5/6 Learning Community took a classic artwork in Hokusai’s Great Wave and personalised it by adding a surfer. “The Wild Ride” is their reinvention of this iconic Japanese work and is something to be very proud of.

Our secondary students have all been working on individual pieces for the art show based on the ‘Wild’ theme. Their contributions range from Lighthouses, Tigers, Penguins and Stormy skies.

Please see the Art Show page below for more information.
