The Learning Zone

Yesterday the infant's teachers attended the third installment of “Spelling Stars”. The Spelling Stars program is responsible for your children talking about vowels and consonants, how many sounds and syllables a letter has and the origin of words. The Spelling Stars program teaches children strategies for spelling and explains why words are spelt the way they are.

Needless to say, it was an informative day that has continued to build our capacity and knowledge which we can’t wait to share/teach your children.

Semester 1 School Reports

Students will be taking home their Semester Reports on Friday 21st June. The format of the report differs slightly to that used in previous years, whilst still providing information about student achievement and effort/engagement in all subjects. If you have not had a chance to speak with your child's teachers and you wish to do so during weeks 9 or 10, the online booking system for Parent Teacher interviews closes at the end of this week.

Year 1

As part of Maths and Science students are learning to create pictures on the chrome books using 2D shapes. Great work Year 1!

ICAS ASSESSMENTS (only for years 3 - 6)

St Xavier's is once again giving students in years 3-6 the opportunity to participate in the world-renowned ICAS Assessments. This is totally voluntary.

ICAS is developed by UNSW Global, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of New South Wales, with over 35 years’ experience in educational assessments.

ICAS is designed to target students’ higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Writing, Spelling and Digital Technologies.

Every student will receive a certificate and an online result report.

The assessments are suitable for students wishing to extend themselves academically and take up the personal challenge of competing in an international assessment. Your child will be presented with high-quality, expert-developed questions, allowing them to apply their learning without the need for prior study or revision.

ICAS Assessments are now online, a move that reflects a sector-wide transition to computer-based assessment. This allows greater accessibility for students and faster delivery of results.

Learn more about ICAS here: unsw.global/ICAS

You can now pay for ICAS online! To confirm your child’s participation, visit the link below and make a direct payment to UNSW Global. Online payment closes on 31st July 2019.

Parents can access this service by typing unsw.global/parentpay into a browser.

Parents will require a unique access code to purchase assessments that were registered by your school.
