City2Surf

On the 9th of August, 25 students left rainy and snowy Bendigo to participate in the 49-year-old Herald Sun City2Surf in the hopefully sunny Sydney. With months of preparation and weekly training sessions, the courageous group was very excited to test their stamina and successfully complete the 14km course.

The day before was comprised of enjoyable visits to some of the famous sites of Sydney including Manly and Bondi. We all indulged in some much needed sunshine, and for some of us, lots of shopping!

When the day of the race arrived, there were many nerves mixed with anticipation. The atmosphere at the start of the race was electric, especially as the starting gun went off. Throughout the race, live music distracted some of us whilst the ice cream stand distracted others! Of course, Heartbreak Hill was a tough point in the race, but the struggle was immediately worth it as one by one, Girton students crossed the line, receiving their medal. Many standout results were achieved, with special mention to Xavier Dole (10 Frew) and Emily Everist (9 Aherne) who were the fastest boy and girl, and a group win for some age groups.

We would like to thank Mr Giudice for being our new MiC, under the wise guidance of Mr Lorincz. Special thanks also go to Mr Whitsed and Ms Tunzi for accompanying the group. Overall, the City2Surf event was a great success and we hope everyone was proud of their efforts.
