Grade 4 Camp

GRADE 4 FUN AT CAMP OASIS

We hope you enjoy reading about some of the fun times we had at Grade 4 camp.

The highlight of my camp experience was definitely the food.  The meals were delicious. We had chicken parmigiana, ravioli, ice-cream and so much more. It was all SO good. I would like to thank the teachers for organising this amazing camp.

‘Click, click!’ There I was getting ready to have my turn on the crate climb. It looked so much fun. When my turn came I was nervous and excited. When I started climbing, it felt weird because I had never done it before, but I start to get the hang of it so I got faster and faster. In the end I climbed and stacked 12 crates. The most crates climbed and stacked this year was 16.  Overall, I think it was my favourite activity.

My favourite activity was the flying fox. It was a really long one that stretched for the length of the whole oval. I was extremely nervous about it. We first got tied into our harnesses to get ready for the exciting flight. We put our helmets on and waited for our turn. When it was finally my turn, I walked up the stairs and got ready to go. I leapt off the side and went flying through the air at a fast speed. At the end of the flying fox there were tyres to hit. The instructor told us we should curl up into a ball to hit the tyres. Some other people in my group curled in a ball and did not hit the tyres, but I did.  After the session was over I thought to myself, that was fun!

One of the activities I would like to share with you is going to see the reptiles in the Reptile House.  We got to see and feel some of the reptiles like snakes, lizards and turtles.  We also got to hold frogs.  I got a bit creeped out but I think holding the Green Tree Frog was the best.

On Thursday at camp I made candles with my group. I was excited about trying to make one of my own.  It was hard to make it into a shape. The teacher helped me to make a dog-shaped candle. It was lots of fun to see everyone’s candles which were different colours and shapes.

I am going to tell you about an activity I did at Camp Oasis called Low Ropes.  Low Ropes is basically an obstacle course with ropes. The aim is to finish the course. While someone is doing the course, people have to be beside them so that if they fall, they would support them. My favourite part was when I had to swing on a rope and land on a log.

At Camp Oasis, the Grade 4s took part in some night activities. One of the first activities was the opportunity to roast two marshmallows over the fire, which was great fun. After that we went for a walk around the campsite with our torches. We came back to sit around a lovely fire and sing songs. Some of the songs we sang were Maggalina Haggalina, Fireflies and Roar.  We had great fun singing!

On Thursday night we all took part in some bush dancing. We did four different dances: The Heel and Toe Polka, Strip the Willow, The Stockyards and The Waves of Bondi.  At the end of the night, eight dancers taught us some dances including The Nutbush and 5, 6, 7, 8.  To finish off, we all did The Cha-Cha Slide.

Overall the Grade 4s had great fun participating in the night time activities.

I couldn’t believe that it was finally Friday, the day when the Grade 4s would return from camp and see their families again. Everyone was still excited though because we were going on a lovely trip to Silvan Dam, where we would eat a nice meal of hamburgers. On our way we saw beautiful plants, trees and some giant ferns. The walk was very exciting with pretty scenery and I think we were all quite hungry afterwards. When we arrived at Silvan Dam, Blackbeard (the chef) was waiting for us with a delicious lunch. Some of us even got to see a kookaburra. Overall, it was an amazing day.
