Principal's Report

Term 4
Assembly last Monday 29th October was a great display presented by our students of the diversity in learning at Valkstone.
Year 4 students informed us of their camp experiences at Oasis, Mt Evelyn, finishing with the Nut Bush dance performance.
Many of our students from Years 3 - 6 received awards from the ICAS Maths competition. We celebrated World Teachers' Day, acknowledging the role teachers play in providing quality education at all levels, recognising their contributions to society.
Students across all levels are given the opportunity to enhance their public speaking skills in this forum and we are impressed by the capabilities of the Year 6 students as they organise and lead Assembly each week.
Planning for student learning
In Term 4, schools review their Annual Implementation Plan based on the Strategic Plan.
This year our targets have been to:
1. Increase students' achievement in the capabilities of Critical and Creative Thinking.
2. Increase opportunities across all curriculum areas for Speaking and Listening.
3. Increase the positive response for teacher communication to parents.
4. Increase the percentage of students achieving high growth from Year 3 to Year 5 in NAPLAN writing.
5. Increase students' perceptions in learning confidence.
As the SIT (School Improvement Team) evaluates the data associated with these goals, we are recording growth in all areas.
Professional learning is also linked to these goals and has enhanced teachers' capabilities as they plan and teach in teams.
