Parent/Guardian Workshop: How to talk about death and dying with our children

Death and dying is a subject that society and many find hard to do deal with. Talking about this subject to children can be challenging for parents especially when they are dealing with their own feelings and emotions at this time. This workshop will provide tips, support and resources for families with Primary aged children to talk about death and dying.

About the facilitators: Lynn Redwig & Leigh Connell – are both end of life doulas here in Hobart. They have worked together giving talks and supporting families and are both hospice volunteers.

Lynn - www.holdingthespace.com.au    Leigh - www.walkingyouhome.com.au

When: Tuesday 12 November 2019 – 7pm to 8.30pm

Where: Boa Vista Room, Hobart Meeting House (Argyle Street Campus)

There is no cost, however, Friends’ parents/guardians wishing to attend are asked to book at the Trybooking link.  Tea and coffee will be provided.

Please label them clearly, bring to school and deliver them to Adele Harding.

Year 5 Outdoor Education Excursion - The Lea | Friday 1 November

On Friday 1 November, as part of our Outdoor Education program, all Year 5 students will be visiting The Lea Scout Centre. We hope to teach the students bush skills that will help them in their future outdoor adventures. Students will need to wear sensible outdoor clothing suitable for bush activities (we ask that students wear long trousers and bring a pair of shorts) and bring their lunch, snacks and a large water bottle. We will be leaving school at 9.10am and returning at approximately 3.00pm. All Year 5 teachers will be on this trip accompanied by several Gap students and Thomas van Sant (Morris Outdoor Education Teacher).

Prep Outdoor Education Excursion - Coningham Coast | Thursday 7 November

On Thursday 7 November Prep will travel by bus, departing at 9.15am, to explore the Coningham coast. On our excursion students will be undertaking a bushwalk (with their backpacks), taking a closer look at the natural environment (and perhaps find a crab or two), making indigenous connections, and putting their creative, group and problem solving skills into action. Students will return to School by 3.00pm. Students should wear sports uniform, and apply sunscreen before arriving at school. Please do not order lunch from the canteen on this day.

Students will need to bring the following items in their school backpacks: packed lunch & snacks (no yoghurts please), drink bottle full of water, warm jacket/jumper, raincoat, sunhat, sunglasses, personal sunscreen, personal medication and in a plastic bag a spare change of clothes and towel.

Music Count Us In | Thursday 7 November

Morris students will once again take part in this national music initiative in 2019, as part of a celebration when more than half a million students from thousands of schools around Australia sing the same song, on the same day, at the same time.  This year, all Morris students will take part in the celebration day at Morris on Thursday 7 November. We encourage students to share this year’s song, We Are, with families at home prior to the celebration day.
