High School

Bread Tags for Wheelchairs
For the remainder of the year, the High School will be participating in the Bread Tags for Wheelchairs initiative. To get involved, students are encouraged to collect the plastic tags from their bread bags and drop them off at the High School Office or to Service Committee meetings on Fridays in S202. At the end of the year, the tags will be recycled to make a variety of items, including picture frames, seedling trays and coat hangers. The proceeds are then donated to the South African charity, supplying wheelchairs to people in need. Collecting and recycling bread tags, including broken ones, is also a simple way to protect the environment, as these pieces of plastic usually go into landfill and, because of their small size, are particularly dangerous to wildlife. Check out the website: https://www.breadtagsforwheelchairs.co.za/.
Operation Christmas Child
Until Friday 8 November, on behalf of Operation Christmas Child, Year 8 student Bridie Woolley is fundraising to fill shoebox-sized boxes of gifts to send to children between the ages of 2-14. High School Tutors have an information pamphlet and a box for their Tutor group. There will also be a box in the Library and the High School Office to put age-appropriate donations in such as shoes, colouring books, pencils, erasers, or T-shirts (no liquids). Year 7 Orford Camp
The Year 7 Orford camp allows students to further develop outdoor skills learnt throughout the year whilst introducing new activities designed to push students out of their comfort zone in a structured and supportive environment. These activities are not only designed to develop personal resilience but also teach students the value of accountability, teamwork and personal management in the outdoors, with obvious crossovers to other areas of their lives. We will be using basic camp craft, abseiling and mountain biking to help achieve these outcomes. Please consult the Outdoor Ed website at https://sites.google.com/friends.tas.edu.au/oed/y7/orford-camp for help with planning and preparation. Could parents/guardians please ensure CareMonkey forms are up to date.
