Teaching & Learning

Celebration of Learning

On Wednesday 11th September we will be conducting our Celebration of Learning. This is a night where students welcome their parents and other family members into the classroom to share in their learning journey. This is an informal celebration that will run between 5.30 pm and 7.30 pm. Come for as long as you like.

While here your child will be able to show you the Visual Arts displays around the school and the STEM hub.

If you come straight from work or have hungry kids with you, we also have that covered with the Canteen offering coffee, tea and hot chocolates and of course the BBQ will be operating during the night as well.

This is an important part of our reporting and communication program for the year so we look forward to seeing everyone on the night.

Goals of the Celebration of Learning

  • Provide students with the opportunity to connect further with their learning by prompting them to reflect on their goals and their learning in general and articulate this to their parents/guardians.
  • To provide an opportunity for parents to better understand what their child is doing in class.

Naplan Test Results

During Term Two our Year 3 and 5 students completed the NAPLAN tests and results for both the school as a whole and individual students have arrived. Individual student results will be sent home with students on Thursday, so please keep an eye out for them.

Please feel free to make an appointment with your child’s teacher if you would like to talk through your child’s NAPLAN results.

We understand that one-off tests such as NAPLAN can produce unexpected outcomes and our teachers are more than happy to sit down with parents to discuss their NAPLAN results.

Whilst the results present information regarding to the achievement levels of individual students, they also present a useful measure of our performance as a school. As such, over the coming few weeks we’ll be pulling the results apart and seeing what they tell us in terms of the needs of our current Year 3s and 5s, but also what they tell us in terms of our teaching and learning programs across the school. We will work through the results with the staff, School Improvement Team and present our findings and a plan to School Council and the PLP team.

At a glance the following observations have been made of the NAPLAN data:

  • Grammar has shown some pleasing growth compared to our 2018 results
  • Our Writing results highlight an area for future growth for the school
  • Our results in Reading continue to be a highlight
  • The learning growth of our Year 5 students from their tests in 2017 has been extremely positive.

Bicycles For Humanity

The Bikes for Humanities cause is way underway and we are asking for donations of old or second hand bikes for the E.B.T students to fix up and send away to help children in Cambodia. We are collecting bikes on the last 3 days of the term, so please feel free to drop any and all bikes to the school.

EBT News

73 Days to go!!!

Energy Breakthrough training will continue over the next couple of months with the energy and intensity increasing. Please keep a copy of these calendars close by so that you are aware training days. It has been amazing to see the turn out so far and we're proud of everyone’s patience and efforts over the last couple of training's. Keep it up!

Wednesday’s training will now be at the school down on the Basketball courts and Sunday will continue at the tennis courts. Please be advised we don’t expect you to be at the training for the full time on a Sunday, but we would ask that students could get there for half an hour sometime within that window.

We are seeking assistance with any old or unwanted cycling shoes that anyone may have in the sizes between 37 and 43. We are also seeking to borrow some large eskies for the event and the upcoming BBQ. If you are able to lend these items to us, please let us know.

What should your child could be doing at home

As the event is fast approaching, I have asked the kids to be having a go at `10-30 minute bike rides most nights of the week (where possible). We understand that a lot of the students are involved with other sports after school and that is GREAT, however we need to start working on endurance, leg and core strength and power. These aspects are extremely important to be able to last the 14 hour riding event. Grab a friend or family member and have a bit of fun. The challenge is to do 10 hill climbs. Please remember to log all your riding because we will be using this to pick out teams over the next month or so.
