ACC Round 1

House Athletics Carnival

Perfect conditions greeted students for our rescheduled House athletics carnivals, as the sun came up over the oval and the events begun we were fortunate to witness some excellent displays of athletic prowess. With six events on at one time there was plenty for the boys to get involved in and test themselves while representing their Houses. In most age groups only, a few points separated our individual champions with athletes scoring points for their best 5 performances. In the House competition Lasalle were convincing winners in the Junior carnival and Solomon snuck the win for the Seniors. It was their big win in the Juniors that carried Lasalle across the line to win the House Athletics trophy for 2019.

ACC Athletics

The penultimate week of the term saw the St Bede’s Athletics team head to Lakeside Stadium at Albert Park, for the ACC Athletics Championship. With a disrupted preparation due to the postponement of our House carnivals we were unsure of how we would perform, however knowing the team had been fortunate enough to have expert coaching from Old Collegians Peter Fitzgerald (who competed in the 1976 Olympics Montreal), Matt Crowley and Zac Calvez, hopes were high for a good result.

As each event passed the team battled to the best of their ability, however it was soon clear we would be fighting to avoid relegation from Division 1. This is when the team really stepped up, especially as athletes picked up injuries during the day. The boys displayed great character and courage in every single event ensuring that we will again be competing in Division 1 in 2020. Special mention must go to the following athletes who won their events.

•           Alex Gibson U15 800m & 1500m

•           Edward Gibson U13 1500m

•           Paul Profir U16 High Jump

•           Harrison Oliver U13 High Jump

•           Tom Murphy U16 Triple Jump

•           U15 4x100m Relay team – Mark Banducci, Lachy Parker, George Botsioulis, Xavier Russo
