Multicultural Day - September 5th

Our annual Multicultural Day will be held on Tuesday 5th September. On this day, all staff and students are encouraged to show off their culture by coming dressed up in cultural clothing and colours. In the morning, there will be a special assembly where everyone will have the chance to showcase these cultures, either by dancing, singing, reading a poem or by just taking part in the parade.

This year there have also been a few additions to the way this event has been organised in the past. We will be having a guest speaker, Diana Nguyen, coming in to perform during the assembly, as well as an opportunity for students to get temporary Henna tattoos for a small fee, as one of the cultural activities during the day. After the feedback received last year, the SRC have also decided to run food stalls again this year, giving everyone a chance to purchase a variety of different foods from various different cultures.

We are all very excited to be organising this special day, and we are looking forward to seeing you all dressed up on Multicultural Day.

Australian Mathematics Competition

One of the world’s largest school-based mathematics competitions with more than 14 million entries since 1978.

The Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) was introduced in Australia in 1978 as the first Australia-wide mathematics competition for students. It has become the largest single event on the Australian education calendar, allowing students to attempt the same tasks on the same day in over 30 countries around the globe.

Running since 1978, the AMC is for students of all standards. Students are asked to solve 30 problems in 60 minutes (Years 3–6) or 75 minutes (Years 7–12). The problems are designed to test mathematical thinking rather than focus on calculations themselves, thus such questions are designed so that they can be answered just as quickly without a calculator as with one. The problems get more difficult through the competition, so that at the end they are challenging to the most gifted students. Students of all standards will make progress through the problems, and also be challenged along the way.

Carwatha College participated on Thursday 27 July 2017 with 44 of our secondary students participating in the competition. Competition results including certificates will be sent to the school in November. We wish our students much success and look forward to seeing this prestigious competition grow and attract more students participants in years to come.

Thank you to those parents and students that supported this event by registering and paying on time.
