Year 11 General Mathematics 

This week Miss Van Hennik kindly allowed us into her classroom to see what her Year 11 General Mathematics students were up to.

The students were starting the topic of Financial Mathematics and were completing a revision activity.

“We were looking at general sequencing and now we are studying Financial Mathematics”

“Our hook was on ratios and percentages to help us remember what we learnt last lesson”

“In Financial Mathematics I had to work out the percentage off some items. You take the price and then turn the percentage into a decimal. You then multiply that price by the decimal and that gives you the percentage off”

A reminder to the students in 869A who are competing in the 2016 Maths Talent Quest that their projects must be submitted to Ms Kaspar in Staffroom 1 no later than Wednesday 10 August, at 9 am.

2016 Australian Mathematics Competition

One of the world’s largest school-based Mathematics competitions with more than 14 million entries since 1978 will be held on Friday 29 July (not Thursday 28 July as previously advertised, due to the LHS Athletics Carnival).

The competition will run during Periods 1 and 2 in the Learning at Lilydale Centre.

All students must bring a device as the competition is online this year. A list of participating students can be found on Compass.
