Year 7 Immunisations

Year 7

Welcome back

We welcome back all students from their June/July school holidays. We hope all students had a wonderful break and are ready for a positive Semester 2.

On Monday 18 July, we had our Mid-year Awards Assembly.  This was a wonderful assembly that celebrated the successes of our Year 7 students. We recognised those in leadership positions and those who had strived for excellence at Lilydale High School. We also recognised those who continuously work diligently in class and complete all set tasks to the best of their ability.

As we progress into Semester 2, it is important for all Year 7 students to reflect on Semester 1 and to use their reports to identify their strengths and weaknesses. We encourage all students to set themselves some new goals as they come to the end of their first year at high school. Students need to make sure that they have all the correct resources for each subject. It is important that they are prepared and ready to learn.

Theme of the Week -

Gratitude

Students have been participating this week in their home group activities 'Theme of the Week'. This week’s focus has been ‘gratitude’.

As a Year 7 Coordination team we have decided to share one thing we are all grateful for;

Miss Wilson

I am grateful for my beautiful family and friends, my health, the many opportunities I have undertaken and the wonderful country in which we live in.

Mr Neumann

I am grateful for outdoor environment that is easily accessible in Australia.

Mr Toma

I am grateful for the good health of my grandfather who turns 100 in August.

Miss Mclachlan

I am grateful for my family and friends. I am grateful for my health and the opportunities life has presented me.

Year 7 students were provided with the following blurb;

Gratitude is a powerful tool for increasing satisfaction because it amplifies good memories about the past. Persons and events contribute daily in a cumulative effect upon our lives. Often, these events and individuals go unrecognized in formal or informal ways. Sometimes we lack gratitude rituals and forgot to acknowledge the good things in our lives.

We encourage all students to regularly reflect on one thing that they are grateful for and to share that with a friend or family member.

Year 7 Captains

Awards Assembly

Monday 18 July

Brodie Gray

Good morning to all of Year 7, I think it's fair to say that we all achieved something in the first semester, whether it be sport related or academic related. I know that I achieved making the footy team for LHS, that was something I achieved last semester but now it's time to start thinking about this semester and what we want to achieve.

A lot of kids will want to achieve different things throughout this semester, whether it be getting higher grades or making a specific sport team that you want to try out for, or it could just be to try and get no detentions for the rest of the year.  What I want to achieve in Semester 2 is to be a better leader and speak up more in class and contribute to the class discussion.

Thanks for listening and good job to the people that get awards in advance.

Tyler Swann

Hello Year 7, I hope you all enjoyed your holidays and a jammed packed Semester 1. Many excited things happened last semester including a visit from Seth Franco talking about the struggles in his life and how being resilient got him through his struggle and even got him stared in a movie.

We also had an exquisite time at the zoo learning about all the animals and their scientific names and their classification. I'm sure we all had great fun.

The swimming carnival was a great success with many individuals going through to the next round and many amazing house colour costumes were present on the day making it a bright and fun filled event.

Throughout the semester we had lots of interesting form group activities including a line debate on whether technology is really needed in everyday life and many 'Thinking Thursday' and 'Friday Frenzies' that gave us great ideas for writing pieces.

This semester we have the leadership camp for some individuals at the 'Mt Evelyn Oasis Camp' and the Athletics carnival hosting many opportunities for all to compete.

Mariah Derksen

Thank you all for joining Brodie, Tyler and I at this awards presentation today. I'd like to talk today about some of the great highlights of last semester.

The school year kicked off with many orientation programs, like the great program 'Peer Support', and even our first high school camp in Phillip Island.  Year 7 camp was a great chance to meet friends, and make memories with teachers and our fellow peers. All 3 camps had their own individual great times, and I know that my camp experience was great and I'd do it all over again (except getting stung by that stingray, that hurt and yes, I still have the scar to prove it).

We also began our high school sporting careers, with many interschool sport events against other local schools happening. Some of the many sports we participated in were; netball, baseball, footy, soccer, cricket and volleyball. All sports were highly enjoyed, and the leadership and friendliness we showed as a year level was of high regard.

On behalf of all 4 Year 7 leaders, I would like to thank you all for a great first semester, and we are definitely looking forward to finishing off our first year of high school with you all! Thank you and good luck for this awesome upcoming semester.

Year 8 Captains

This past semester has gone by in a flash. We have all participated in many great activities These range from cross curricular projects to incursions.

Our biggest project for the semester was the Significant Person Project. During this project every single student worked really hard throughout English, Art, Ceramics, Music and Drama. All this hard work collectively came together to produce two amazing afternoons that showcased just how awesome our year level is. As this was the first time this event has happened we have all set a great standard for future years to follow.

Another one of our amazing events was an incursion by the great slam poet, Zohab Zee Khan. Zohab opened up our eyes to new opportunities to do with poetry, writing and life in general. By hearing how he struggled to achieve his goals, yet eventually succeeded we have been inspired to persevere and do the best that we can.

Last Monday, we were lucky enough to be able to attend our very own 'Wellbeing Day'. This day was a chance for us to understand how to be the best version of ourselves. By participating in this day we have all come back to school with a positive attitude.

For the first four periods of the day the girls and boys were split and we did separate programs. The boys started of by learning how to tie a tie, we then went on to doing the Haka which is a traditional dance from New Zealand that they do before sporting events. Later on we had an ex - AFL player, Leigh Adams who spoke to us about having a good community and setting high goals.

In the girls sessions at the start of the day we did a yoga class and listened to a talk on healthy eating and body image. In the yoga class we focused on being able to relax and be at one with ourselves. During the talk on healthy eating and body image we talked about being comfortable with our image and knowing that if we eat healthy then we become the best version of ourself, no matter what anyone else says. Later on in the day we had two year twelve girls speak to us about how important it is to surround your self with positive people and people that you trust. We followed this with some more little activities up until lunch.

To end the day we had a speaker from The Resilience Project come and talk to us. He spoke about how to improve our own resilience, how to be more grateful for what we have rather than focusing on what we don't have and influenced us all to become better people.

This next semester is going to be so much fun as we have so many excellent activities like, athletics day and an awesome Year 8 camp coming up. We would both like to congratulate the whole year level on a fantastic first semester and we know you will all continue to keep up the good work.

Thank you.
