Senior Girls Football

On Monday 18 July,  17 Lilydale High School students headed to a very blustery Springfield Park to compete in the Eastern Region Quarter Finals for Senior AFL.  With no bench, and one less on the field, the girls had their work cut out for them.

First up was Templestowe, and the girls took a few minutes to find their feet, but when they did, they took control of the majority of possession, and with the rebounding skills of Kate Betts from the centre half back line leading the way the girls ran away winners 35 to 15.

The second game was on the larger of the two fields, and meant the girls had to cover a lot of ground to run the ball against a 5 goal breeze straight up the centre of the ground. Charli Granville provided the highlight of the day, with a quick snap from the boundary that was Eddie Betts like. With an enormous amount of running from Mel Hogg, Jess Provan and Maddie Rouget, the girls ran away 45 to 1 winners.

With a final game left for the day, it was a must win against Norwood to secure a spot in the Eastern Region Finals the following week. The luck of the coin toss did not fall our way, with a first half against the wind Norwood proved to have the running power. The girls dug deep to try and close the gap in the second half with the wind behind them, but with only 16 left on the field after Kylah Day came off with concussion, the girls were unable to bridge the gap.

Nevertheless the girls played with great spirits all day, and represented the school tremendously. An effort they should all be very proud of.

EIS Netball

When students are normally relaxing and enjoying their school holidays, 9 of our very own EIS Netball girls were competing in the Waverley International School's Netball Championships.

The team consisted of; Mia Sudomirski, Jess Saunders, Cailey Nolan, Emily Artis, Madison Rouget, Tayla McCormack, Chelsea Corbett, Tess Fraser and Chasca Russell.

A huge congratulations to all these girls for giving up their school holidays and their efforts.

The championships was competed over four days from Tuesday 28 June to Friday 1 July. As the championships was international, there were teams from Sri Lanka, Malayasia, Tonga competed along with at least one team from each state within Australia.

The girls played 12 games over the four days, and we won 7 and lost 5. The team ended up finishing 10th out of 24 teams in the senior age group.

As a team we would like to thank all the teachers that came to support, and especially Ms Mortley for coaching us and allowing us to participate in this memorable experience.
